I won't have to listen to his stroke-slurred speech on NYE anymore?

turns out that Clark had built a fortune

Clark fortune estimated in 'hundreds of millions'

"He wanted to reward the people that were loyal to him and who entrusted him with the stewardship of their capital," said LeRoy Kim, another Allen & Co. managing director who guided the transaction. "He was a different type of entrepreneur. He was an incredible man."

Clark suffered a stroke in 2004 that affected his ability to speak and walk and led to a reduced role at the company.

In 2007, the company was sold again, this time to Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder and his private equity firm RedZone Capital, for $175 million. Clark sold the remainder of his stake. He remained connected to the company only through his annual appearances on the New Year's Eve show.

Dick Clark was the Go-To guy for the question of who was going to live forever, but he didn't even live to be as old as most people thought he already was. His last couple years were rough, and he reminded us that he was not an android. Amazing how fast one can go downhill in health. You had a good run Dick. To my knowledge, you were a good person, and I certainly hope you may rest in peace.

Mr. Clark was solid.  He had broadcasting in his veins being born into a family that owned a radio station.  So he majored in business.  He gave many artists a chance and made tons of money off them.  When people grew their hair out or wore baggy pants he always remained the same.  He was on of the most successful producers to live.  He gave us American Bandstand and the 20K pyramid.  He also gave minority artists a chance.  I agree with the poster above, the ball should go black this year.

RIP

Seriously though this is a really tragic death. I didn't know much of the guy until his death and day by day I'm learning about what an amazing guy and entrepreneur he was. Really a class act.

Class act? He made some TV shows, acted on screen, and made a lot money. He didn't cure cancer. Just some dead rich guy who we remember being on T.V. when we were young. meh

Urban Dictionary: Class act - "A person who is a class act has it together, they have a lot of class in public situations."

Now look at what he's done in life and how's he done it.
