CD/DVD burner not recognized

My parents bought a new SATA CD/DVD burner a few days ago Lite-On iHAS 124. BIOS recognized it, My Computer didn't. It showed up in Device Manager with an exclamation point so I tried uninstalling and then scanning for hardware changes. Still the same exclamation point. Tried a couple different SATA cables, different SATA ports to no avail. Any attempt to update the firmware failed because it said it couldn't find the installed drive.

Returned the Lite-On and got a SATA Samsung SH-222BB/BEBE. Same exact problem. Recognized in BIOS and Device Manager but not My Computer. Any attempt to update the firmware gave the "drive not found" error.

The solution seems so god damn simple, yet I can't seem to find it Halp

Seems odd that it would need a driver? That's what that exclamation in the DM has meant to me in the past

Is there a jumper on there making it a slave? Shouldn't be with SATA and all but I'm just throwing it out there

1) Regedit
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) Then delete the upper and lower filters....
4) Restart
5) ??? profit etc

No jumpers on the back of the drive

If you have a known working drive you can try it in there and if that one doesn't work either its obv the MB and you can go from there. Otherwise I think I'm running low on ideas.
