Does everything else (seem) to work? HD activity light, fans, etc.? What happens if you plug an external monitor into it? As in, wait til it powers up, plug a monitor in, shut the lid, open the lid. If the other monitor does it too it might be the OS, if it works normal it might be the lappy's screen.
