i just had jacks in the final 6 players after playing this tourny for 3 hours and i had to muck them because of their dirty past.
Why is it so bad? As good as any other pair right?
I know literally nothing about poker strategy

It's a tricky hand to play. Often see higher cards hit the board, and people tend to overestimate the strength of their pocket JJ.Finray wrote:

Can't be much worse than any other pair in hand though?

Yes it is. Learn to play poker.Finray wrote:

It's bad because whilst looking strong in the hand it's all too easy to over commit, 'cus it's like "oh Jacks in the hand!" when stronger stuff/pairs start hitting. If it was a shitty low pair you get out earlier.

I see, makes sense

I won almost $1200 on pocket jacks once... Guy tried to slow roll his Pocket Aces and then went all in after the flop came up AJJ.
On the flip side, the next week I lost $200 with pocket aces when I tried to "play more aggressively" as my profession friends kept telling me I should do if I ever want to be good. Opened with $50, guy called. Flop came out A55. He went all in. Confident my Full house would beat anything he would have called $50 on (figured he had pocket Ks or something and was now bluffing) I called him. He had called my $50 on pocket 5s, so he beat my full house. He went on to rake in about $10K that night, calling EVERY SINGLE HAND. That was the last night I went to the casino, even though I was up $8K for the year on a starting bankroll of $250. That was 2 years ago and it still makes me sick to think about that guy.

Even in you don't overestimate the power of JJ, you still get in to tricky spots. That's why I'm now at the point where I just shove, UTG to the button and in between I just shove. I've come to the conclusion it's a hand to steal blinds with, and nothing more.bennisboy wrote:

i hit trip 3s with a 3-7 off against AA. guy was not happy. I was drunk in vegas and pushing all in blind for like 10 hands in a row. I was that guy. I won like $600 in 20 mins then left to go to bed
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
To win JJ, you need to pretend to have AA.
Simply mutter one of the known nicknames for AA and grin like a mad man.

That is, if you're playing poker properly, with real people on a table.
