Anyone see what's happened with The Oatmeal, (funny comic website.) Got a letter from a lawyer for FunnyJunk demanding he pay them $20,000 and remove all mention of their site from his page. This was in response to a year old post from Oatmeal, (Matt Innman,) where he criticised FunnyJunk for posting many of his comics without any credit while profiting from ad revenue. The letter from the lawyer is hilarious and shows how much the guy does not understand how the Internet works.

The Oatmeal website is pretty much unavailable at the moment due to the traffic but this is a cached copy of the lawyer's letter and the reply.

So guy who creates content gets sued by site that steals and profits from said content. Mental.

Oatmeal's response was to say he wouldn't pay the $20,000 and would instead attempt to ask for donations from his readers to raise the money only so he could take a photo with it and send the photo to FunnyJunk along with a picture he drew of the lawyer's mother trying to seduce a Kodiak bear. He would then donate the money 50/50 to the American Cancer Society and the National Wildlife Federation.

It took him 64 minutes to raise $20,000. At the three hour mark this was $40,000.

Wow.
