I think I've posted this before, but didn't get any help, so I'm posting it again!

My BF2 keeps crashing on me. I'll be playing, 40 - 50FPS, then just BAM! Screen freezes, screen goes blank, PC restarts. I have tried rolling back to 6.1 Cat drivers, which never gave me problems before. I have tried several versions of Omega Drivers, I have even reformatted once.

Hardware:
ABit UL8 mobo
AMD Athon 64 3200+ @ 2.0GHz
ATi Radeon 9600 128mb
1.5GB Kingston DDR400 RAM
430W PSU

The PSU is a cheapy that came in my 40$ case, but I'm getting consistent 12.45 - 12.55v according to ABit EQ and Everest. I have run Prime95 torture tests which tests RAM, CPU, and PSU for 12 hours without errors. I have run another benchmark program aswell (forgot name) without problems.

I have 1 (rear) 120mm exhaust fan, 1 (blowhole) 80mm exhaust fan, and 2 (1 side, 1 front) 80mm intake fans. My CPU runs at around 23*C at idle, and no more than 35*C at full load. I don't know GPU temps, because it doesn't have a temp chip, though I have an 80mm fan blowing directly across the core.

I have tried running 1GB Kingston DDR400 Dual-channel RAM, and it still crashed. It's not a consistent crash, sometimes I can play a week straight with no problems, but sometimes I get 3 - 4 crashes a night, one right after another.

I have tried 3 different HDD's, no luck there either. I've even tried Windows XP with SP2 and that didn't work either. I've tried switching from my sound card to on-board sound (hey, I'm desperate) and no luck there either. I've tried many graphical settings, even though my FPS is fine.

The only thing I can think of is:
1) BF2 hates me
2) My motherboard doesn't like my RAM
3) My videocard is dying (unlikely)

Incremental or full? Incremental is supposed to be unstable.

It worked fine for me though.

What do you have runing on start up? go run, type in, "msconfig" hit run go start up hit disable all, hit apply, it will ask you to restart pc doit, when windows loads popup will come up telling you about the changes, tick box hit ok.

Try doing your thing with BF2 now also look at the steps below

Peace Boris

Ok here is what I found  this might fixit for sum

First off Install full patch not "incremet" ( this should fix most of the problems )
Update Punkbuster After new patch ( full install ) update your PB, you can find out how to auto update PB in general chat section of this forums ( titled top 10 tweak guids )

To steps above should fix the problems also found this on other forums that might help

1. I found this sorted, my problems out, alternatively you just need to switch your PC to run with just 1 cpu (in window task manager, right click BF2.exe, select affinity- deselect one of the cpu's and away you go!)

2.If that dont work dude, try turning Hyperthreading off in your BIOS. Done the trick for me, I had the exact same problem.
I dont have Dual processors though but if the above post don't work give it a bash.

3.Video settings check make sure they set to low ( only for now just to see if it helps our problem )

4.People getting a CTD when they hit 'Join Game' should be able to connect by using the  ESC button instead.( tip by ptegan )

if any of it fails reinsatalling game with full ptach and full PB update will fix your problems.

still getting the same graphical/software lag as i started getting with 1.22. The game loads fine, get to the server list and starts to load the servers in groups of 20 and is really slow. then when i finally join a game, i cant play it because there seems to be a lot of graphical lag.

Hi!

I'm not usually the one to write on forums like this, but I had the same kind of error/problem for a while, and I managed to solve it! Don't know if this will help you out, but here goes:

I have Mcafee firewall installed. I always disable it when I play BF2. I too had some trouble with the latest (1.22) patch. The game would totally lag in multiplayer, but worked just fine in singleplayer.

The solution: Mcafee firewall, even though disabled, didn't know of me patching BF2. I never approved BF2 for network access in Mcafee. When I reactivated the firewall, and started BF2, the firewall prompted for what to do with BF2. I allowed it network access, and the lag was gone! Now there is no problems any longer with my firewall (or BF2). The "funny" thing is the amount of lag (200+ms) I experienced when the firewall was DISABLED. Once the firewall knew of BF2, there is no problem with it, even when it is disabled!

This should help few of you Enjoy

All I have running at startup is my Logitech G5 software. I have disabled unneccasary XP Services as per a guide somewhere on the net.

First off, this is nothing new, it's been happening ever since I got my new comp (beginning of .. april I think) and I have tried the full version of 1.22, still with problems.

1) I have a single-thread CPU.
2) Not doing that..
3) Tried it
4) I'm not getting a CTD.

I don't have mcafee.

Anyone else?

A few possibilities:

Overheating
Malware (ie, virus)
Memory problem

Possible solutions:

Have you cleaned inside your computer lately? Use caution, and a wrist strap, when doing this to avoid damage. Make sure all the fans are clean, running, and not making any funny noises (Power Supply fan, CPU fan, and case fan).

Follow the recommendations and instructions in the links below (in my signature block) to help protect and cleanup your system.

Does your computer report the actual amount of RAM you have installed? Have you added any recently? Sometimes just removing RAM and reinstalling it helps.

I had the same problem too, ran adaware and spybot s&d and cleaned out temp internet files. that seemed to fix it, but I only used that PC for like a month after that, by then I had all my new parts for my new PC.

Right click on My Computer icon on desktop (True Icon not shortcut) go to properties menu, click on advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery title click on Settings Button and then Uncheck Automatically Restart which is Under System Failure title, Click OK and So for and if your Computer Fails you should be able to diagnose the problem as the System should provide a BSOD with a Code.

Let me know how you get on Bro

PC randomly rebooting? Read this first...

As any regular visitor to Hardware Analysis or any of the other tech help forums can attest, one of the most common problems experienced by PC users is that of random reboots, often experienced when carrying out processor (CPU) or graphics processing (GPU) intensive tasks. These issues can be one of the most frustrating to track down and troubleshoot, but in actual fact most (although not all) of these problems can be attributed to one of only five causes:

1) Viruses and Spyware
2) Drivers
3) Overheating
4) Memory (RAM) problems
5) Power Supply (PSU) issues

The purpose of this is to provide a quick troubleshooting guide for anyone experiencing random reboots, hopefully to help the user track down the cause quickly and easily. Of course, there will always be exceptions to the rule and it may be the cause of your issue is not covered here, but please work through these troubleshooting steps before posting details of your particular problem.

Viruses and spyware

I've put this issue first, although viruses and spyware are among the least likely cause of system reboots. Writers of these types of programs generally want to leave the computer running so that it can carry out the intended task, so the reboots generally only result if the virus is badly written or you have multiple infections which are fighting for resources. Nonetheless, this is the easiest problem to troubleshoot, so I've put it first. Run a virus and spyware scan. If you have neither (why not?) use AVG, Avast! etc (insert name of your favourite virus scanner here), along with Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy.

Drivers

Another one which is relatively unlikely to be the cause of the reboots, but can be ruled out quite easily. Run dxdiag, and have it check that your drivers are WHQL certified. Now, we all have devices which come with non MS certified drivers, but as a trouble shooting exercise, disable anything with a non WHQL driver and see how you go.

Overheating

CPU and GPU overheating can and will cause your PC to freeze up and crash. So first things first:

1. Check your temps, both CPU and GPU. Correct operating temperatures will vary, but a quick Google should tell you the temps your own setup should be running at.

2. Ensure all your fans are running, especially the heatsink fan and the GPU fan/s.

3. Take the side panel off of the case, and set up a desk fan to blow air into the case. If the problem goes away, you need to upgrade your cooling.

Ram problems

These can be a bit trickier, but generally:

1. If you have two or more RAM modules (DIMMs), remove all but one to see if this solves the rebooting. If not, swap them out, one stick at a time.

2. If your BIOS allows, increase the voltage to the ram by 0.1v.

PSU issues

Power supplies causing system instability is something which happens far more often that you might imagine. PSUs are subject to very high electrical loading, and today's power hungry components will inevitably wear down a cheap power supply. Unfortunately, it can be quite difficult to troubleshoot PSU issues without simply swapping it out with a good quality replacement. However, one way to do so is to unplug any unnecessary devices (optical drives, etc.) and see if the system stabilises.

The PC is almost brand new, it's squeaky clean. I have no viruses, I just reformatted a couple days ago. The computer does register the full amount of RAM. I have tried removing and re-installing, also tried blowing out the ports/memory with compressed air just incase.

I don't get it... I mean I know BF2 has horrible bugs, but why am I the only one experiancing this? It has to somehow be hardware/software related, but only BF2 does this to me...wtf!!!

Thanks for trying Boris, keep the suggestions coming.

My computer is not randomly rebooting, it only does it while I'm playing BF2, becuase the stupid thing freezes. My whole computer doesn't freeze, just BF2. I can't CTRL + ALT + DEL, but I can still talk on TS (for about 10 seconds, before it restarts).

I have exceptional cooling, that is not the problem, I'll put money on it.

FIX Oblivion
--------------

http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/inde … p;t=308781
http://codebot.org/articles/?doc=9350

1) Ensure all drivers are updated.
2) Ensure latest DirectX is installed correctly.
3) Set sound acceleration to STANDARD in dxdiag.
4) Fix crap Nero codec:
Go to " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\ "
Rename folder " DSFilter " something else like " DSFilter_DISABLED "
5) Disable all third party codecs: Ctrl Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices > Hardware \ Audio Codecs / Video Codecs
REMOVE CODEC PACKS and Do not install any codec packs!

Crash when entering Weynon Priory and potentially other areas may be related to setting;
bDoSpecularPass=0
Changing bDoSpecularPass to 0 in the .ini can cause a crash entering the Weynon Priory.

Run Prime95 to test your systems strength may be a good idea.

OBLIVION : WINDOWS XP : RESOLUTION 23528
Q: I am experiencing a crash with a file mpeg2dmx.ax when running Oblivion.
A: Some users may experience frequent crashing due to an older system file. These crashes
may be attributed to the ' mpeg2dmx.ax ' file. Simply renaming the file to " mpeg2dmx.ax.old "
may correct this issue.

Reinstall Oblivion:
Uninstall Oblivion using:
" Start Menu > Programs\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Uninstall Oblivion "
You could now do a regestry scrub (CCleaner or other reg cleaner).
Restart Windows.
Close apps that do not need to be running (AntiVirus, DVD/CD and any other applications).
Install your fresh Oblivion.
Restart Windows.
Cross those fingers and fire up Oblivion.
If crashes continue you should close any unneeded running apps and try again. If still crashing run through this guide again.

There's no way I'm going to be running at basic acceleration, the sound sounds like it's coming from a 5$ radio. There is no reason BF2 should have to be at those standerds to run, when everyone elses runs at full acceleration.

I'll try the nero thing. I'm not uninstalling all my Codecs, as I need them to watch certain videos (xvid codec, etc). And most of those fixes are for oblivion...which doesn't really help me any.

Not that I know much but I was having bf2 crash yesterday several times. I personaly think it was the patch not taking or the results of the servers patch screwed up. I reinstalled patch and still crashed twice after. For some reason, I was able to play all night when I got home from work last night! No probs now!

I dunno, maybe patch 1.22 was just screwed up. But I doubt it, because I'm the only one this is happening to!
