Judge Dredd has the potential to be a very popular movie franchise. The story universe is great and if used right it doesn't really matter how small/large the original fanbase is.Dilbert_X wrote:

Yeah the basic plot is very similar but apparantly that's an unfortunate coincidence. Dredd entered production before The Raid did.

Eh, I'm not a fan of remakes but there doing that with every movie now a days. So I might as well check it out.
Seen it now. It was a rather good action flick imo, deserving of the rating it has on imdb (7.7). Great soundtrack and karl urban does surprisingly well portraying a character as one-dimensional as Dredd is. Most of the other actors give great performances although I didn't feel Lena Headey (also playing Cersei in Game of Thrones) was a very believable villain in the uber-macho world she's in. Nevertheless she did good in her role. The look of the city is nice though most of the vehicles on the streets don't really fit in with the futuristic setting of the movie which gives the very start of the film a bit of an odd feel.
Regrettably though despite it being a pretty good action packed movie with good actors, decent 3D and special effects it completely bombed at the box office. I very much doubt there will be a sequel, try seeing it in theaters while you still can.
