In my server I have a P4, shit motherboard, 1GB of DDR2, and about a Tb of storage space.

The motherboard in the server has a 10/100 mb ethernet adapter.

Would it be preferable to pick up a PCIE Gigabit ethernet card?

If you want to transfer files over the network faster than at 100Mbit, then yes. Otherwise not so much. Also the other PCs will need Gigabit NICs and you'll need a gigabit switch.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
