Great fireworks in DC. Saw 'em at a park that's next to Reagan National Airport, airplanes constantly taking off right over our heads. Buddy proposed to his girl and she said yes.

Went to a bbq and then cruised on my friends sailboat to watch fireworks. Pretty relaxing day, I must say.

Movies have a lot to play in spreading cultural knowledge. The major reason so many know about Independence Day is the Will Smith movie. Most likely the first thing anyone under 25 heard about July 4 was from the movie at least. Same for other things. Only reason so many Americans know about Guy Fawkes is because of V for Vendetta. New Zealand was completely unknown until Lord of the Rings, now they only image people have of it is a wilderness of Hobbits and Orcs. Ditto for Australia where people think everyone wears khakis and drawls 'crikey' at every opportunity while being constantly attacked by deadly creatures. Name the national sport of Jamaica. Did you guess bob-sledding?
