it's a bit weird, for me (at least) you have indians/pakastanis and they get called asian, wherease aforementioned chinese/jap will be called ala nationally. ex; i'm going to the chinese (takeaway)

No. East Asian here means Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans. People from India are either called Indians or get lumped together with the Muslims and Arabs. Pakistanis along with Persians get lumped into the Arab/Muslim category too. The only time anyone refers to Indians as Asian is when they call them South Asians. But you will only really hear that in PC/academic setting. Whenever ever someone says "Asian" here they mean people with slanted eyes including Filipinos, Vietnamese, Koreans, etc.

What supergroup do they lump Chinese, Koreans, etc into in the U.K.?

they all get called chinese or oriental.

People don't use Oriental. It is considered an insult really. Don't ever use that word over here. Only the ignorant and low income earners ever use that. Same group also would refer to all Asians as Chinese. Asian is considered socially acceptable. East Asian is used in technical/PC/academic settings.

I might sell my M3 to lease a Lancer. It is a E36 and maintaining it in its old age is starting to be a pain. Also eats gas and raises my insurance. I could get around $4000 for it. Put 2K down and drive a lancer for 2 years for like $60 more on my monthly budget.
