Part of the fun in the game was earning the awards.  Some were tough but that made it fun to challenge oneself.  1.3 is lame because you just need to create an account to earn experts it seems.

I was thinking, why did they do this?  I came up with 2 reasons:

1) They want everyone to get the awards fast and easy so that fun aspect of the game will be over quickly.  Therefore, people will be tired of BF2 and be more willing to buy 2142 since they will have easily achieved all goals.  This is a way to get people to shift to 2142 more quickly, and the money will allow EA to buy more janitors to pump out more patches that do not really fix any bugs, but create more (they don't actually have programmers at the company).

2) Knowing that the patch was yet another piece of crap that did not fix any bugs or correct the bad gameplay changes in the past, they thought that handing out lots of e-bling to n00bs would get them a lot of positive feedback and they could pat themselves on the back for another outstanding patch.  The sales people would then wet themselves thinking of all the 2142 they are going to sell to the happy n00blets.

So my thoughts are it is all about $$$$$$ and 2142.

Your thoughts?

no offence, but there are a million other threads like this (well a little hyperbole, I guess)

I've never been fond of conspiracy theories myself, but I a m getting suspicious.  I mean, how can a company consistently release patches that make the game worse?!?

That was my initial thinking, but the more I look at it, one thing totally defeats that idea. That would be the WCR.

100 hours as commander isn't an easy task. Neither is 3.0 W:L, but I will say I have a 3.0 W:L ratio, no WCR, and nowhere near 100 hours.

I see the knife badge as a way to get rid of knife servers. The Ground and Air defense time requirements taken away to defeat the purpose of wasting countless hours of your life idling waiting for a random jey to come into your vicinity..etc. The combat medals were made a bit more realistic with the 200, 300, 400 stairstep requirement, though it strikes me as odd that they'd have a 400 hour time requirement for the experts which would take 100 hours a peice. DUH to them on that one.

I donno.. just my thoughts... I won't be buying 2142 for the shear fact I hate the "futuristic" thing. BF2 will be my game of choice for quite some time.

As long as your playing BF2 your not buying anymore games. It would seem Ea wants to make it so an average person can get all the awards so they move on to drop another $50 or so to EA games for the next hot title.

I agree, i didnt even like the 1st couple patches cause they made the ranks easier to get....your right thats the whole fun of the game, one of the things that pissed me off was i worked my azz off tryinig to finally get the Heli    Combat Medal, and i got it about a week before this stupid patch and tonight in one game i recieved 3 more Heli Combat Medals????  How stupid.  I am a believer that the game was the best before any of the patchs, when you actually had to use skill, like in the start if u were flying a Jet against a good pilot you had to actually follow them around for a while untill ude get that nice shot...now after patchs any newb can get in a jet and take someone down...cept for the j10 it still owns all.

I like the fact that they took away the WCR 3:1 requirements. I always found myself wondering which team I should be in that would secure victory. Why give a medal to someone based on  the actions of many? You can be an aspect of a winning team but one Rambo is very rarely going to have any impact on the outcome, ditto to a competant commander and a useless team.
Not taking anything away from TMo and all others who have this award, (*cough*teamswitcher*cough*.)

EA is making sure that awards are easier to get because of the fact that there are often "gaps" between getting awards/ranks. Especially between First Sergeant and Sergeant Major, there is little chance of getting awards such as badges, and most ribbons are already given, and the chance for medals are to far away time-wise. It's just a way to keep people hooked, not to 'move them on' to other EA titles.

I'm all for it. I'm not going to play BF2 forever and I always thought the game would decline before I got my new computer, (almost there by the way!)
I want to get as many awards as I can, even if only to hear the funky drumroll just a few more times.

I'll tell you why, it's because BF2 is the world's most successful beta game released to the public without EA letting their customers aware it is LOL. Performance tweaks, weird multiplayer issues, servers, updates out the wazoo almost every few months. I wouldn't be surprised if BF2142 will be issued out as a beta prior-release, but because it'll be a beta before then, people won't nag about it as much becaue they'll KNOW ahead of time.

I too am not fond of conspiracy theory but sometimes the extreme seems the most likely at times, people just deny to think that way because it's just that very essence, extreme. EA's got weird business plans and maybe the guy who came up with this thread's got something going, if not somewhere close to it, but perhaps.

Anyway, as for the Rewards going on... yeah they really dumbed down the requirements for them, some were needed, ugh, like the WCR, that was inhumanly possible unless you had a server and just... sat there I guess, I dunno, but it was tough as shit to get!

They added the time for the 400 so you could earn it over and over, providing you have enough hours per time

Man I'm a feel like a total ass then once BF2142 comes out, that I spent over 60 bucks alone for Bf2 and it's expansion, spent a shitload of hours I could've used to been more productive in stuff... like SCHOOL! HAHAHAHA, but seriously, that'll suck once 2142 comes along, this is left behind... and that's it... if EA actually bends that far, then they've gone TOO FAR!

Don't really care for awards, maybe I would if they mailed them to me.   People need to come back to reality and play for fun once and awhile -- Then there would be no more "not capping flags because I want alot of points by staying here in my tank spawnkilling because I know there will be 20 nubs spawning over and over". Even in mods you have people tking over jets and spawnraping!! I don't get it, your points don't count on mods; I guess habits !! Just my opinion though.

EDIT: BTW, I see all the top ranks teamswap so I am ALL for getting rid of the WCR, its a cheating ribbon anyway, I've played 1000hrs and 1.06 is my time, never teamswapped, only played on full 64's until recently.

i for one like the game, i adjusted to the patches, 1.20 really pissed me off with the aa but i worked with it.
Now for the last 3 patches, 1.21, 1.22 and 1.3 i have had to completely remove bf2 from my cpu, reinstall it, and repatch it, just to get the new patch to work, and that i must say is bullshit.  I know i am a little off topic here but readin about all the glitches and how this patch has just created twice as many problems as it was supposed to fix, i must ask myself how ea can actually get away with this crap, every patch they have ever created has introduced more problems, before i uninstalled, it would either crash to desktop, or say that i have modified content?  wtf is that????!!!!! the browser is fucked, even after the reinstall, i played 2 rounds, loaded another server and i still crashed back to desktop.  What The Fuck EA???  the game is good, its fun, i can deal with the changes, but releasing a patch that isn't stable or properly tested is complete bullshit.

Get ur heads outa ur asses EA, test the patch before u release it, and fix this fucking mess u made!

Joint Ops was EA's beta for BF2, and what a beta it was.

Anywho, I'm all for removing the 3:1 ratio. Maybe now teams wont be one sided when everyone swaps teams to try and gain that ever-precious ratio. Actually played today a few rounds on a server with EQUAL teams (read equal # players, even skill wise).

Now it also seems the badges are in reach of your average joe - people who dont dedicate 8 hours a day to this game. I wouldnt have and probably still wont get badges like expert armour, aviator or helo. Its now actually looking like I may get badges like expert ground defense.

I'll probably never get any stars, nor be on any leader boards. But to say I have to dedicate 8 hours a day to get a freakin' badge is rediculous.

I'm pretty pissed they "lowered" the requirements for the expert AA badge. It took a lot of effort to play 56h... but since the badge isn't worth shit anymore, I guess I have to bug the pilots until I'm #1 AA.

It's just another incentive to save 50 bucks when BF2142 is released... thanks for that.

I'm just gonna hate the fact there'll be a 10 year old General buggin' the shit out of me whenever I start playing again. Ugh. I'm all hanging out as Squad Leader... then out of nowhere, not sure HOW the kid figured it out, damn perceptive thing, he Squad Voices over everyone and out of nowhere, in this high-pitched squeal "OMG CATCH THAT FLAG! **** @&#$ &#@(!!!" and from a 10 year old! That's a shame

Looking over UBAR I gotta say that the changes make a lot of sense. Many of the req for medals and badges were a little ridiculous and req you to spend too much time in something boring. Badges can be fun and all but if they make me spend crazy amounts of hours doing one thing I'm not gonna ever give a crap if I don't get certain badge.

I don't know if changing the req in the middle of the game was the way to go though. It almost certainly seems like EA's way of getting people to play 2142 or whatever year it is.
