no, i doubt it. afterall, EA still has to sell us armored fury. since thats still part of bf2 i dont think they want us to move on just yet.

Too much of a conspiracy theory for my taste. Besides, we might as well move on to Quakewars.

That doesn't mean I think the new changes are great though. Not really connected IMO.

I agree - too much conspiracy... If they want us to stop playing BF2 (which is stupid because it's still a good cow to melk for them) they might as well shut down the account server

no need for a consipracy theory for this to be true - its just plain old marketing. they know that for alot of bf2 players, collecting awards and crap is important, and they do want to make it really easy to get them before the new game comes out so that people get more of a sense of achievement (or 'closure', if you're into dr phil-isms) and buy the new game. of course they want you to give up bf2 for the new game - there's not much left to milk: what makes more sense, getting a bunch of people to pay ten odd bucks for "boosters", or the same amount of people going out and paying them a hundred for a whole new product? (hundred where i am, prolly fifty in the US? you know what i mean)

it's the only way to account for this, imo:

Well then lets move this convo on to talk about it.

Who finds it hard to beleive that EA may have conspired to bring BF2 to a premature end, and vice/versa??

I mean come on lets have a conversation about something other than what is wrong with the game.

I've been saying this since the new award criteria was released.
they're trying to get people to lose interest so they'll want a new game by the time 2142 comes out.

At first I thought the very same thing, but then thought........they did the squad hopping for a reason, gave knife badges for a reason. If they try and deter us playing this they need every single one of us to purchase the new game for there plan to be a success.  They would of scanned forums and read people like myself saying "no im not buying spaceman battle field or whatever it is".  So I no longer have the opinion that EA are trying to persuade us to play the spaceman version.

Spaceman version - lol - "At3am_Murd0ch [Moon Lander] n00b"...

But seriously, i agree - i actually like the squad hopping rules, it makes you stick in a work with the squad.

Nope.

The problem here is that there is no silent majority against the 1.3 changes, just a few loud-mouthed whiners.

Sorry guys but what's all this "conspiracy" stuff that EA wants to put off it's customers so they can sell something else? That's just utter nonsense.
EA and especially DICE win as long as people are happy about BF2 and make Battlefield a very successful brand. If DICE would release a patch to "destroy" the game, make the fans angry etc EA could consider dropping the BF franchise and moving on to a different game-developer.
EA and DICE are a business. They HAVE to earn money that's the whole point of making business. It's really sad that you accuse these companies of "cashing in on us poor gamers" when that simply does not hold true. If they did not care about the game they would simply STOP developing the game which would mean they would NOT invest anymore money. Developing a patch costs money too you know. And besides, compare BF2 to something like World of Warcraft: no monthly fee whatsoever so please start considering that EA might not be that evil after all (even though they do so funny stuff but that's a whole other story).

I guess in the end people are upset because they are used to the way they play. Humans are creatures of habit so if there is change there is friction which leads to some unhappy players that would like to hold on to "the good old times" and start blaming "everyone" else. The ones that embrace the changes usually don't express the way they feel about it so there is a silent majority that does not speak up. Look at the forums and compare the posts in the Complaint and the ones in the Praise section... If we hate this game so much and if it has sooo many obvious bugs and we should either quit playing or giving the developers a hint in a constructive way or develop our own game (go Opensource ).

Well this reply got a bit longer... I am off to get some frags

I work in marketing and I can tell you that this would make no sense.  In fact I challange you name me another sector where a business would deliberately mess up its old project to increase sales on a new one.  I can't think of any can you?

Put it this way, do you think Microsoft will start adding nerfs to its XP updates so everyone buys Vista? I think not and that's in the same sector!

Screw Ubisoft and EA.
Poor post-release patching and poor support of mod communities. Both of them.

Look back at Halflife-1 and Operation: Flashpoint for what a user & mod community is supposed to be like.

Don't know/care if EA is intentionally 'moving us on'.
I think it's more likely that they've moved all the good coders, and 98% of the developer man-hours over to 2142.  The 2 or 3 coders left working on BF2 patches are, apparently, rejects from 'Shakespeare's Million Monkey Troupe'.

What I see in the game industry seem to be that they make a half assed sequil to a realy good game to make a lot of money ( everybody buys the new game when it comes out because of all the hype before there are any reviews), but alot of gamer will not move on as they sill have something to accomplish with gameplay that is still interactive.  I do think that the patches lack the finnish and testing that we should be getting even if everything is nerfed.  I am not saying that 2142 will be poor.  I don't know, but there is still plenty to do in BF2 so that I can wait for a review or I will find a new game in the interum.

I think there is a high proportion of better players on the verious forums making the out cry for not halving the award req's much higher here.  I think most players don't know what the req's are ( haven't even thought that they could find them on the web).

2142 looks kind of stupid to me anyway. Its just a futuristic fantasy Mod thet they want us to pay for.

I would just as soon play all the other cool Mod's that people have put out for free. Even battleracer is tons of fun.

I just prefer realictic weapons and situations rather than some Star Fleet Command wanna be
Mod which is what 2142 looks like to me.
