Part of the fun I had in reading the books was imagining what the tune would be behind some of those songs. It was a treat if they were fairly close to what was used on one of the movies once I got around to watching them.

Two days before the premier, word is that An Unexpected Journey has just been completed. Wellington is going a bit crazy. Like, ashamedly so. Apparently people working at the tourism information places have donned shire clothes and Hobbit feet. There's also a big event at Waitangi Park with tents and artisans and a bunch of hokum Middle Earthy schite. All in good fun I suppose but seriously, with all that's going on plus that Air New Zealand safety video that went viral a while back it's getting a bit over-saturated.
The Embassy Theatre is about 100m from my front door, I'll be sure to go down and have a look on Wednesday. They have it all made up pretty like they did for the premiers of the Rings movies.
My favourite is still the massive Fell Best they had perched on top of the building for Return of the King.

There is no way you'd think the Hobbit had no action in it if you read it. If anything, it was a smoother trip than the following three books. More action, less talk.
Also, as to orcs vs goblins:

As much as I like Battle for Middle Earth II, I'm not going to let it rule what I know of the book series. More of the misunderstanding comes from the differences between the Hobbit and the rest of the series. Tolkien used the two terms interchangeably, but the Hobbit could be misinterpreted by a reader who would decide that orcs are a goblin subrace, which would invalidate comments throughout the rest of his works. A good in-character explanation would be to embrace the different names from different cultures for the race. A good out-of-character explanation would be that Tolkien wanted to distance himself from traditional names for fantastical creatures where he reasonably could.
