Wondering if the PKM is just a noisemaker when shooting at Tanks and Helo's. Was shooting a BH last nite and wasted 150rounds and didn't even see smoke, it was hitting, at least that's what the crosshairs were telling me. From what I read is that the PKM is crap long-range, was that the reason why? Or can they take down helo's and tanks (of course by the time you probably get one bar off a tank he'll turn in shoot)?
I could've sworn I downed a helo with my PKM. Of course, it was under fire trying to cap a point, but it was pretty much all small arms. I got the kill points using a PKM... There might have been a few other PKM's shooting it, too, though. No rockets, tanks, FAV's etc.
You have to remember that the PKM was meant to mow down infantry, not steel plating. You're not going to have the same effect (especially on a BH with people repairing it) on vehicles as you will when firing your gun at an infantry.
I you can damage blackhawks and any helicopter a little with the PKM, however the damage is only a little you really would have to hit it many many times to destroy it. Generally only shoot at helis with small arms if you can see they are already damaged, other wise you might annoy the pilot/gunner and your pkm is no match for the various weapons on board the choppers.
However, to go against what I just said, in the case of a blackhawk full of people (the mec/china equivalent) it is indeed worth shooting at them. Aim for the windows and you can quite often shoot out some of the crew members.
Dont bother shooting at tanks or APCs, the PKM wont even scratch its armour.

the blackhawk you were shooting at probably had an engineer in the back - cuz the PKM is quite good at damaging light armoured vehicles...
a tip for long range usage: its very inaccurate UNLESS you kind'a use singleshot and use the iron sight for aming... its pretty good at long range... I'm used to take down snipers that way..
regarding the tank... no bullet weapons make any damage on tanks.. unless you use .50 caliber weapons on APC's then it does damage BUT trust me you will never kill anything that way! its simply to waek do get you any kills..

I can confirm a few downed choppers, come to think of it i've put my share into I think one of each Helo with a PKM.

Yeah, but that's more likely down to the weird "the last person to shoot the vehicle claims the kill" thing in BF2.
I've seen my squadmate/housemate take the credit a few times for shooting down a Cobra with his L85A1 on Sharqi.

thats right... when you see a flaming chopper - just fire away.. sometimes you can get a [killed]...

Ive got credited the kills of the black hawk pilot and all 5 crew members, shooting at it with pistol
Hell I shot down a MEC attack heli with my M95 sniper rifle .
As a blackhawk gunner I can tell you that a PKM doesnt do THAT much amount of damage =/. Youd better run for safety. Ive killed many PKM'ers thinking they can shoot down my helo.

Let me clear up some of the rumours floating around this thread:
PKM -does- damage helicopters, transports, and people. It -does not- damage armoured vehicles, like APCs and tanks.
The PKM can mow down transports and people fairly easily... but it takes a few boxes to destroy a fully healed helicopter.

i took out a half health black hawk with a clip form my pkm. i no it was half health cause my friend was flying it
I know this isnt the subject but I wondered how you got your expert repair badge beeng 25 repairs IAR got lucky or something
it can back fire on you as well. if you shoot at it and it crashes into your team you also get all the tk's as wellZ-trooper wrote:

happened to me the other day shot at a suicide helo and it crashed into a near capped flag with lots of my team under it ....... my first kill was worth -18 points
i took down a blackhawk with 1 magazine from my jackhammer, wasnt smoking or anything. no one beleived me. but after that pistol entry, it seems a lot more beleivable
Believe what you like, and afaik shotgun weapons dont damage vehicles :p
Any armor (tanks and apcs) are immune to PKMs everything else (including Apaches, Blackhawks, etc) can be taken down. I personally haven't brought a helicoptor down, but have brought a few to smoke, thus making them leave the area
