ah, the 'it's just your subjective opinion' line. that's when you know someone has nothing proper to say. so what when the entire critical, musicological, and cultural community agrees on something's particular merit and notice? when a release or song is especially singled out, by multiple people's, of multiple backgrounds and interests and specialisms... is it then just a correlation of arbitrary subjectivities? no, it's called a critical consensus. it's called 'acclaim'. herp derp. all you ever say with this "it's subjective!" shit is that, essentially, everyone is an individual perceiving an object/piece of art. congratulations. ground-breaking thought.
karma: derivative rubbish? derivative, how, exactly? these recordings date from the late 80's / early 90's. they are there at the birth of electronic ambient music. nothing sounded like them at the time. not much has sounded like aphex's ambient recordings since. he is a unique voice. 'derivative'? it's hilarious you call aphex twin derivative. he's one of the weirdest and most idiosyncratic producers in all of electronic music. his whole
thing is that everything he does is singular and impossible to imitate. he's been on his own 'don't care' trajectory for his whole career - it's his whole reputation and myth. calling aphex twin "derivative" shows that you are ignorant of this music in the extreme.
coming up with a "oh, it's just your subjective opinion" line really is the icing on the cake. you don't know what you're talking about, as per. go help your mum vacuum the linoleum floor or something, if you're really that bored.
oh and there's not a genre called "ambient drone". there is, however, 'ambient' and 'drone'. i don't see why that surprises you.
