'degraded'? how? many modern idiolects and vernacular systems of speech are highly intricate and complex systems of signification/communication. sure, a certain sort of formal, high-registered 'grammar' has fallen out of fashionable use - particularly amongst the non-professional classes, who view 'formal' writing increasingly less as a basic skill, and more as some alien and specialist argot. but that doesn't mean grammar itself is dead and buried. grammar qua formal/legalese, sure. grammar, period? language will always have a grammar and a syntax - just they take on new forms.Jaekus wrote:

the S3 just seems bigger than it needs to be and i definitely notice a delay when touching the screen, feels like there's lag when you swipe anything

iphone also has better battery life.

I don't think PV is a tech nerd (i mean that in a nice way) and feels the need to configure and tweak everything. Having played with both I can say out of the box normal usage puts them on the same footing.Trotskygrad wrote:

Why would you tweak around with them anyway? They work fine out of the box and their ease of tweaking isn't going to be a worry for 99% of the market.
You can play pokemans with the samsung S3. That was a dealbreaker for me. And most of the apps on the samsung are free and it's a cheaper phone.

At least the screen on the S3 (and other phones from Samsung, HTC, Motorola etc) are a proper ratio. Must be awesome having an iphone 5 and then having black bars on the edge of any video or older app because the aspect ratio of the screen is stupid. I wouldn't go for a phone any bigger than the S3 though, the Note II seems ridiculous when I hold it.
Having no SD slot is also a deal breaker for me. I have a 64GB SD card in my 16GB S3, yet to get a 64GB iphone would have cost me $500 more.

I will probably never own an iphone again. Between the lockdown of the apps, app store, and itunes, I'm just over it. It's nice to own apple products if you plan on only owning apple products (and by that I mean peripheral products like tablets, music players, phones). It is so incredibly stupid to be stuck under the thumb of apple's whims and desires. In my opinion, the UI of apple IOS is 10x better than android, the keyboard has better response, and everything is just clean, simple. However the integration and tether to itunes/app store is a show-stopper for me.Macbeth wrote:

HTC, Samsung etc all feel like iPhone rip offs. Which they essentially are.
hasnt this been done enough already? if anything apple was ahead at first but ios takes much more from android than vice versa in recent years

HTC was building smart phones and touch response electronics like 10 years before the iphone existed. Samsung was a leader in developing smart phones and touch panels. All three of them were trying to innovate smart phones created by Nokia and others.
