It's just hard for me to feel bad about peoples quality of life in Europe when it wasn't real in the first place. It was an illusion, akin to someone in the projects or a council house driving a Lexus and wearing trendy clothes.
also why are you complaining about "massive military and endless war", when it has been absolutely crucial and indispensable to your own life?
you are a fucking first-rate buffoon.
It wasn't crucial and indispensable to my life. That's what you don't seem to get. It was a choice, I wasn't forced into it. I could've just as easily completed college while racking up moderate debt like my younger brother did and would've been fine. I could've worked instead and saved for college. I simply chose a different path. Aside from defense contractors, no one is dependent on the military here. Sure, for some, the alternative is working at wal mart, but it's not as if they make much more money in the military than they would working at wal mart. For others like shifty, they get off on the thought of going to war and becoming more important than they really are, or they get off on the pageantry. Is it worth maintaining a massive military because of those circumstances? Hardly. The military isn't workfare like dilbert likes to say, those people are perfectly capable of holding down other jobs, they just might be menial.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

You act like I'm saying 'I got mine, fuck everyone else' when it's not like that at all. I saw how wasteful and stupid it is to have a massive active duty military when I was inside the beast. It opened my eyes. The only people that really benefit are Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and the politicians whose political campaigns are funded by them.

it was crucial. without military aid handouts you would have never afforded college. without college you wouldn't have your precious engineering qualifications. you opportunistically used the 'oversized military' and 'endless war' for personal profit of the most cynical kind. now you want to say that the entire european project was basically "not real", it was all just "fake achievement". hahahahahahahaha.
You're an idiot if you believe that. State college in New York is about $13k/yr including room and board. You think $52k is a massive debt load? I'm about to drop ten times that on a house.

I was at my ex bosses million dollar home today. Huge house with a connected dock. He gave me a few pairs of still tagged dress pants. What a guy.

sounds positively aspirational.
Cool. Except you know mine wasn't a brag post, because home prices are stupid around here.Macbeth wrote:

You think $50,000 is a lot of money? I am about to drop $500,000 on a house. Loser humanities major.
No, it's just perspective. When I was 19 years old and staring at $50k in future debt it seemed like a mountain. Now that I'm in my 30s and working full time it looks like a molehill.Macbeth wrote:

you wouldn't be at that perspective though if you hadn't abused federal welfare to get a college education.
inconvenient truth.
you were a textbook rand fanboy when the 'grab everything for your own objective gain' philosophy suited your little gestalt.
now you're in your 30's and into a career, you're a textbook-toting libertarian: hands off my cash! no welfare! down with big government!

No, my life would be different. Better or worse no one can say unless they are an oracle.

but you're the oracle with the answers for europe's political situation, right? it's all that big government! and subsidy! and tax exemption! which you benefited from! but let's not talk about that because, who knows, leave it to the sisters of fate.
Yawn, you're the most tiring person to talk to. Keep your head buried in the sand and pray for a better day just like every other socialist. Moron.

so because i've pointed out that the 'austerity' measures hit workers the hardest, now i'm a socialist?
lol.
the problem with you, jay, is that you read something semi-intelligent somewhere, and, according to your 2d view of the world, allow it to colour everything as black/white and absolute. you are dogmatic (a dogged commitment to other's ideas that frequently makes you a hypocrit).

A house is an investment, you can always sell it again and it will always be worth something (and if history is anything to go by, almost always worth more). An education not so much.Jay wrote:

An education is an investment as well.DrunkFace wrote:

Really? You don't think an education is an investment? There's no point in ever bettering yourself?
