Yeah, that was weird. I suppose her back would've looked a little cluttered with everything (and they don't fold up Mass Effect style), but it was quite obvious.

yeah just googled it, shame

"Crystal Dynamics stated that they made that design descision, cause they realized they will run into glitches and bugs when u would have all the equipment shown at once,...especially in crouch positions and cutscenes...so they just let them dissapear when not in use."

cool that they're still making these. haven't really looked into it. though tomb raider reminds me of the sorta days when it was actually normal and acceptable to purchase weekly magazines about computer games. console magazines which seemed to run an image of lara croft every other month for about 5 years, for some reason or other.

is it still as difficult? i remember the original tomb raider games having some puzzle elements that were so mind-boggling/poorly pointed out that it was, like, a week-long swearing and crying affair.

the difficulty is gone apart from the odd moment where it may leave you scratching for head for a few minutes.  especially now there is an "instinct" button, which basically highlights important objects/locations etc for you.

though i think they've made up for that with the gameplay and visuals, great fun so far

Tomb Raider is everything that is wrong with video games inside one game

Reboot
objectification of women
retarded marketing ("actress" who played lara croft goes on conan o'brien)
The "gritty, dramatic, emo-isation" of entertainment.  Thanks, Chris Nolan http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- … ideo-games
Excessive violence and gore for pure shock value

etc.

i don't understand the objectification argument but the rest could be valid points

feminist discourse in video-games: tedious and pointless.

if video-games had anywhere near the intended impact and effect as, say, a film or book... okay, maybe. but people play games for fun, for disengaged mental nothingness. people don't play games to be all hyper-critical and engaged with the content/themes and all thoughtful and contemplative. if a video-game objectifies a woman, nobody fucking notices. that's because a game is there to be fun (or competitive), bottom-line. the figures and models involved are irrelevant to the actual mechanics underneath. most games aren't narrative enough to really be analysed this way, for 'feminist' or 'anti-feminist' undertones, or whatever. the story is a thinly veiled bit of dressing to simply give the game momentum and a pretense for its designed path-ways.

I'm not saying games have the same intended impact of film or literature.  My point is that its trash.  There's a difference, between making a fun, mindless, kid friendly game (Nintendo or Maxis back in the day) and making a game that is designed to give teenage boys boners.

Lara Croft 2013 is designed to give teenage boys boners? jesus you seem removed from reality

Oh, so because its a reboot, that means we just forget what the name is all about?  Christs sake, man.  Either they are continuing a trashy POS series of a game, or they're just cashing out on the name recognition.  Which one is better?

It'd be like me, naming my kid Adolf Hitler 2.0.  No, really guys, its a reboot.  Nothing like the original.

your example doesn't even make sense. if you named your kid hitler it wouldn't make him like the original hitler. wat.

tomb raider 2013 is a good game, plain and simple. i like it regardless of what it's named. i mean honestly i've played one other tomb raider game in my life, and it was Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which wasn't even a traditional tomb raider. i wasn't looking to play 2013 because i reminisce about her tiny waist and her huge tits. i thought 2013 looked interesting, and was proven right.

i do think some of you younger generation gamers are forgetting just what a poster-icon lara croft was for the original generation of console gamers (and their press/marketing). the lara croft sex appeal was definitely used at almost every single opportunity in order to add a bit of 'sex appeal' and 'cool' to what was viewed as quite a geeky and male-centric pursuit, back then. i doubt the new game is quite so suffused with the same spirit, but definitely 10 or so years ago, the tomb raider games were basically an excuse for a bunch of people to sell a lot of playstation magazines with full-page foldout posters of a computer animation with ludicrous tits.

i know, i remember those magazines, though i never played the original tomb raiders. i still think ranting about sex oppression in video games is fucking retarded and people like /srs/ are fucking disgusting and spearhead's posts are like copypasted from there

... i think you get the idea. it is definitely a franchise they rebooted on the pretense that lara croft has a certain... 'cachet'.
