Would it be harder to hold and control than Iraq and Afghanistan? This is assuming the Chinese don't cross the border into the peninsula and the North Koreans don't shell Seoul into dust.

I am not sure. Keep in mind I was never in the military so I don't have a clue as to what I am talking about but here is some things I have read in books and seen on T.V.:

In Iraq the border was too large to effectively patrol. Islamic militants were coming in from all over to fight us. And Iran was arming locals to fight us. North Korea doesn't have any of that going against it. Only problem would be the advanced and large military fighting an endless guerrilla war against us using Chinese weapons. Some positives would be the fact that the Koreans have a sense of national identity and reuniting the peninsula under a government ran by Koreans would make them less likely to fight us endlessly. Koreans are also not Muslim and believe in hard work and respecting authority.

This is just stuff I saw on T.V. though. So what do you think?

lol no. Just no.

Look, IF it would ever come to war (which I very much doubt - in the foreseeable future at least), any dealings with NK post-conflict should be done through China and S-Korea. Don't even touch that mess.

China is not an enemy here

korea has been occupied and fucked-with by outside influences for, like, a thousand years. it is a major constitutive part of their national identity and ideology. i think even the south koreans would hate an american occupation of north korea. the south koreans see them more as an estranged family member, rather than an enemy they would wish to have an occupation inflicted on them. if there's one thing koreans are proud of thesedays, it's their political autonomy (or autarky, if you will).

NK aren't really a threat to anyone IMO. Last time they launched a missile Japan basically said "we saw it, we could've shot it down but we decided it wasn't worth the bother".

I don't know what the American obsession is with occupying countries that don't conform with their views of "freedom" but it is disturbing. That's not directed at you Macbeth, it's more a general statement.

Realistically, from what I've read, any unification process would result in the end of the US occupation/military bases.  A. Because China wouldn't want us right on their border, and B. Koreans apparently don't like us all that much, even though we like totally saved them from communism

so i was on youtube last night and found this (only 100 views, somehow), but clearly words of reason:

this guy strikes me as the george galloway of the pacific... minus all the jew-bashing (fyi galloway is a 'controversial' straight-talking british politician who always speaks out in the media in support of palestine, iran, cuba etc. basically states that vacant-faced news-reporters who call them "pariahs" do so with little-to-no understanding of politics. he's an infamous debater. he's also probably a little bit extremist).

so anyway, i watched that and all seemed very commonsensical to me. but then in the related videos you have CNN News posting videos like this:

110,000 views, compared to the last video's 100.

lol american media is a fucking joke. are they there to give accurate news, or are they there to whip every single war-game into some action movie disaster scenario? where does information end in america, and hollywood begin?

it's that casual recourse to violence and the constant reliance on the military that makes so many average americans completely complicit and a-ok with you storming off into various corners of the globe. military action should be the last possible outcome of any diplomatic relation: the total failure and breakdown of the political process. instead, as soon as tensions rise in a region on the other side of the globe, american news channels can't wait to run fancy 3d animations of how the artillery will rain down on the millions of heads in seoul. it's fucking perverse. like your news takes its inspiration from call of duty.

But it'll provide for several Oscar-screaming, patriotic movie plots.
