the earthquake in iran a few weeks ago was executed by the CIA so they retaliated with the boston marathon explosion. within 24 hours iran/pakistan is hit by a major earthquake.
i imagine it will go something along those lines.

throw in hugo chavez/marget thatcher being poisoned for good measure. and north korea's 'unusual' actions over the past few months.

Anti-gun lobby blows up people so they can restrict guns? Yeah.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

I'd be wordless too.
Well so much for the Prime Directive.
Free limitless energy would be the greatest thing to ever happen to humans. World economy would be in turmoil for a little bit while everything adjusted but no government in the world would be dumb enough to prevent that from getting out. It would solve so many issues at every level.
And we would finally get to see you Arabs destroy Israel after the U.S. stops supporting them.

I don't know about Freemasons, at a low level its not much different from the Rotary club, at a higher level who knows.
The rich and/or powerful tend to be members of various secret or hidden associations, I'm not sure that means the associations are really evil.

Apart from destroying Israel it would be the worst thing - the population would rise until we reach the food production limit based on farmable land and sea - then the world would be a truly shitty place because we'd be up to our necks in it.Macbeth wrote:

As quality of life increases births decrease. I can post stats later.
Its OK, we all knew that.

so basically you're wrong and you already know itDilbert_X wrote:

Birth rate falls as people become richer, better educated and enjoy a higher quality of life - I thought we all knew this, its super simple.

i'm pretty sure i've posted exactly that about ten times on here over the years, but thankyou for the demographics 101 lesson
my point is that your theory about an uncontrollable population explosion in the case of limitless energy - which would make everyone much, much richer, in time - is basically complete crap, by your very own logic.
this is some argument you're making.

saying that, though, even if you stopped increasing population dead today, and brought all of the developing world up to first-world standards of transport and infrastructure and consumption... the world would be kaputt. so i fail to see how 'free energy' would solve anything. we'd have to completely rebuild our technologies in almost every single way. the main and fundamental flaw to come out of 20th century 'late capitalism' is its stress and importance on ever-expanding consumption and variation. we consume far too much... point blank... beyond any green or hippie agenda. it is simply unsustainable. having free energy would only encourage more of that rabid consumption that is no longer tenable. you can have a clean car and free electricity... but where are you going to get the free and infinite supply of rare minerals from? if everyone wants a 60 inch plasma and the latest iphone, we've got bigger problems than turning the lights on. ditto the most basic aspects of the food chain/big agri. there aren't enough plots of land on the earth for every single family to live a bourgeois lifestyle with a 'varied' diet.

once you have free energy and i mean free, unlimited energy some pretty absurd things become possible. it's not really valid to apply any sort of economic theory - which is fundamentally based on the concept that some resources are finite - to a world where the most important (or second most) resource of all is infinite.
for example, with free energy all forms of space exploration and economic development don't just become viable, they become absolutely necessary.

i mean, the fundamentals of a world with unlimited energy are so displaced from our own that you're getting into the realm of highly speculative sci-fi when you even try to imagine them.
this isn't even going into the physics of an unlimited energy world, which starts to look decidedly... odd.

It takes generations to change human behaviour - we'd hit the food limit well before then - not that population of developed countries is falling now, why would you expect it to fall if we had limitless energy? People would just eat more and find new ways to waste it - you just have to look at the history of America esp to see what people make of almost free fuel, you can look at the oil-rich nations now - I don't see their populations falling.Spark wrote:

what's the problem with wasting a resource which is unlimited? i'm assuming you have some magic energy box here, not fossil fuels as that would be a bit too absurd even for me.
"people would just eat more" - wow. nuanced analysis there. may i suggest to you that there are reasons beyond energy scarcity to not just "eat as much as you can".

right so free energy and a giant exponential growth all over the developing world also somehow magically entails free food, free labour, and free resources, too. okay. once we crack the fusion reactor we will somehow find infinite supplies of bauxite and cobalt, too. we will be growing food on giant plots of land that hover in the skies, in giant sky-gardens of lush vegetation.
this all sounds like sci-fi to me. i think we need to learn to consume a little less. until we find another planet to shift our voracious locust swarm to, at least, anyway.

No problem at all, you just hit a different limit eventually, in this case I say it would be agricultural production, disposal of waste and pollution, whatever.Spark wrote:

Historically societies with virtually free and unlimited energy have not suddenly started breeding below replacement rate and going vegan.
They've grown colossally fat and invented gas-guzzlers and SUVs.

except no society has had "virtually free and unlimited energy". cheap is very different to free.Dilbert_X wrote:

with unlimited energy you can do ridiculous things. genuinely ridiculous things which really are so out there that, once again, they belong in a soft sci-fi book. unlimited energy has more in common with magic than reality as we know it.
yes you will hit a different limit, but it is so far beyond our comprehension that for the purposes of this discussion it may as well not exist.

energy is one thing. we have a finite amount of matter. we're on a ball of rock. we make things we derive from that rock. it's going to run out. the earth's surface area is not increasing (or at least, not at a rate even worth mentioning w/r/t this discussion).
No it isn't, we're going to run out of things like tungsten and other heavy metals in our lifetimes.Spark wrote:

Yes if we had unlimited energy we could mine asteroids and fire our used plutonium into the sun, but we don't and we're not going to so it doesn't matter.
