Okay here's the deal...

I was on FuShe pass as USMC, and I was commander. At the main base, I hopped into the TOW missle (ground defense missle) and stayed in there all game while I was commanding. In that game I got around 15-20 arty kills, but we all know that arty kills don't add to your kill count in your score anymore. However, after a couple kills, I received my Ground Defense Ribbon, which requires you to have 3 minutes and 5 kills IAR in a ground defense missile. Does this mean that Arty kills don't count for your round score, but still count for your ribbon requirements?

Bingo, you're right on the money. They don't count as 'kills' but they count as ribbon and badge requirements.

I'm not sure, but I think that they may still count as kills for K/D ratio purposes. Either that, or I've gotten REALLY good at BF2 lately!

If you get a road kill with arty it does count as a kill, though.

You are able to get the veteran combat badges if you can kill more than 20 when you are a commander (and satisfy other requirements, of course).

Yup, although I found it more fun to shoot people, that might be just me though

They still count as kills in your BFHQ, they just dont count as kills shown up in a server.
