I understand the G36-family are Carbines... at least the specops and medic variant. But I've always been wondering exactly which weapons count as Assaults and which count as Carbines.

I have one weapon in particular in mind: L85A1. Is it a Carbine?

Also, if anyone could give me a list of all the weapons and which types they belong to I would be grateful.

The L85A1 is not a carbine, it is an assault rifle. Carbines are typically weaker.

Special Forces have carbines, medics and assaults have assault rifles.

It's that simple I think.

Don't give too much on this but I'd say:

Carbines are...
M4
AKS-74U
Chinese-SpecOp-whatever
G36C
G36K (not sure about this one)
SCAR-L
Euro-SpecOps-thingy

Assault-Rifles are...
M16
AK101
AK47
G36E
L85
F2000
Euro-Assault-weapon

As I said, don't rely on it, but I would count them that way...
SpecOps => Carbines
Assault/Medic => Assault-Rifles

EDIT: Ew! I just type so damn slow...

I think the EU spec-ops thing isn't really anything, just a weird sub-machine-assault-carbine-thing.

That gun is weird, right...For me, it's just a boosted MP-5, but it's cool somehow...

yeah it is a submachine-assualt-carbine-thingy.

carbines arent generally weaker in real life, bf2 just makes it weaker. carbines are typically shorter in length and have a folding stock or pull stock (like m4)

Euro Force's HK53A3 owns. Best Carbine in the game .

Like everybody said, Spec Ops uses Carbine and Assault and Medic uses Assault Rifles.

the euro forces spec ops or HK53 is a modified version of the MP5, which they make, and the HK53 fires RIFLE rounds, instead of the small 9 mm an mp5 fires.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I was kinda wondering how I could have so high k/d-ratio with assault rifles. Especially as I only played assault in the beginning of my bf2 career

OMG
A carbine is a lightweight rifle with a short barrel. There is a certain measurment. If the barrel is under this length then it is considered a carbine. I think the length is 18". You guys should do some research.

Bullet caliber doesn't necessarily make that true. The M16 and M4 fire the same round, the standard NATO 5.56mm round, but the M4 is a carbine. The velocity of them both differs, since the barrel length on the M16 is longer.

Yeah, well, whatever! I play because it's fun... not because I'm some kind of weapons-freak or sumthing.

lol in real life it doesn't matter what weapon it was. The bottom line is YOUR TOAST if someone shoots you with it... and they won't get their K/D ranked.

What ever happened to the original G36?  EA just too lame to put it in the game or something?

I mean the standard one like this

meh.  I'd rather have that and some flashbangs than an F2000.

so I guess I have a carbine in my pants then...

The swedish Ak-5, carbine or assault? it's 1 meter long and has a folding stock.

btw, it's 5.56 mm and not 5.55...

The K version is the standard, minus the scope.

Isn't the G36K the one you have as spec-op in SAS?
