Japanese video games are pretty good. Not the anime ones but the big franchises rock. When it comes to art, music, television, literature etc., basically anything creative, East Asian (Japan, Korea, China to a lesser extent) is the only culture that rivals western culture in their quality of output. Islamic, Russian, African cultures put out a lot of great stuff in the past but they seem to have just stalled.
what a ludicrous comment. russian literature is in fine condition, and, arguably, produced more world-class masterpieces than any other tradition in a time-span of about
20 years. there was a pre-revolutionary period in the 19th century when russia commanded the prose-novel form, so far ahead of anyone else that all the rest of the civilized world could do was gasp (and russia was still largely, brutally uncivilized back then).
african literature had an incredible renaissance in the post-colonial era. read chinua achebe or fanon. ditto latin america.
islamic cultures have produced writers like orhan pamuk from turkey, who won a nobel prize and wrote some of the most beautiful, elaborate prose since nabokov or proust. he came out of istanbul when it was at its absolute historical nadir. and, this isn't much related to a book club, but iranian cinema is also having a major boom and is widely regarded at film festivals the world over.
i don't get where you pull such preposterous generalisations from, but evidently it isn't from your patient and wide reading (do you even read literature or art much at all? or just browse porno subreddits and throw out this bullyshit).
