i live in a georgian townhouse in a town that is one of the best examples of that idiom in the world, so don't worry. brutalism is awesome as 'art' architecture though. lots of great stuff in ex-soviet bloc countries that was a bold vision of the future. way beyond the rectilinear stuff in the west.

we've got a bunch of great ones here. york, Sussex, Essex, lancaster etc. but in general I like the soviet stuff. it came with the whole total reimagining of the future possibility in a way that the dry architectural experiments in the west didn't. some of it looks straight out of a sci-fi flick. the sky the limit...

yeah i don't like anything after the whole stalinist consolidation. it became monumentalist architecture and slightly megalomaniac as a result. very grotesque. the statue commemorating the battle of stalingrad is high kitsch horror, too, in the same vein as the palace of the soviets.

That's macquarie. The inside is even more brutalist and it's weird when they're building more 'modern' architecture there.

That's U syd. That shit looks straight out of oxford and I think that was the intent from day 1.

I'm spoilt for uni architecture. I lived in a building that pretty much always makes the world top 10 university campuses/buildings. sheer baroque fucking indulgence.

Ha, my university (University of Toronto, University College) made #6. I don't know why they always use my college as the finest example of architecture on the campus-- Trinity College is pretty beautiful.

EDIT- I also don't know what the fuck "Toronto University" is. What dipshit did the research on that one?

EDIT 2- Also, this is the main library on campus: https://bayimages.net/images/20k/robarts-library-university-of-toronto-19739.jpg

Considered to be one of the best examples of brutalist architecture in Canada.

I ordered the MGS V Phantom Pain Hardcover Strategy guide. It is a little more expensive than the paper back.
https://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61iMmS33m9L.jpg
It comes with an exclusive lithograph by Yoji Shinkawa. At its heart though, it is still just a game guide.

This seems to be a thing now. Fallout 4 has a hardcover strategy guide too. Even if it wasn't hardover, the collectors edition is just better to look at.

Would you consider book shelving a game guide? I am a major supporter of the franchise so I have to get this. Otherwise, no.

Strategy guides still exist? What kind of content is even inside of them that you couldn't find easier with a Googling?

I gotta admit, I'm pretty tempted to buy the MGS guide too, even though I'll never use it. Like you say, it's a fan thing. I have the limited edition versions of the other games, as well the guides (except for 4) for them too. I haven't put any of them on the bookshelf though, mainly because I don't have one Don't think I would either unless it was in a man cave nerd den hobby room.

Collector thing, I suppose. Also, games that don't make guides obsolete with every patch can still benefit.

why would anyone 'collect' such crap? how many games that release collectors' editions nowadays really have any actual collectibility. don't the games themselves have to become classic or at least attain cult status? every fucking shitty 6/10 sequel nowadays comes in a tin with a bunch of useless shit. it's pure marketing. all this kitsch crap will just sit in an unused room in your house and will make visitors think you are either socially maladjusted or lost a kid.

Err I don't buy those collector edition tins with stuff. I have never seen one with stuff that interested me. This is different because I am a huge follower of the series, have followed this game's development for 3 years, and this has actual usefulness as a guide. If I throw if I put it on my bookshelf no one will even know the difference between it and the other ~50 books.

Besides, most of my books are pretty highbrow. It is not like I have a bookshelf full of manga.
