avclub says true detective is dead
didn't know you read av club. good site. way to go champ.
It was written into the story as a sign that magic has re-entered the world for a coming end-of-times battle. A faithless drunken priest who worshipped the Lord of Light prayed over his friends corpse and he was resurrected, to his astonishment. The gods have suddenly turned their eyes back to the world etc. Wasn't lazy.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:
setting it up is even lazier! It gives you outs to plot holes and dead ends. Truly truly lazy storywriting.SuperJail Warden wrote:
I am going to have to side with Jay here regarding resurrection. They set it up since season 3. They didn't just add it like they did with time travel. The show has Shadow monsters, zombies, and a dozen other things that are weirder and more contrived than resurrection.
I haven't read any of the books and have maybe watched 30 mins max of the show itself.

The time travel isn't really setup as a surprise in the books either. Forgetting the mad King whispers theory.
Ned Stark thought he heard a ghost tree say his name and looked up in one of the first Bran visions. (well before Bran was born).
And Theon just before escaping Ramsey here's the trees say his name, which is thought to be Bran.
And the resurrection of Jon was no surprise at all considering LSH. But don't look into that if you haven't read the books cause it's a major spoiler.
take it to the book thread. we are talking about tv shows hereAussieReaper wrote:

i can't think of a single change from the books that i didn't think was smart. they books often sound like shit when people tell me stuff from them.
The books are great for their genre...but this isn't a book thread.
Any time you convert from a book to video or even from movie to serial show or vice versa, some fan of the previous version won't be happy. Just take each instantiation on its own merit.

Fine. I will give you that.
Has the evil Pope Francis storyline wrapped up in the book yet or can we make predictions?

So Arya's story is still limping along too? Awful. Worst part of the show.
What's wrong with her?
Apart from looking like Quasimodo.

Do you even watch the show or are you just asking so you can complain? Also for the record, Sansa's storyline is way, way more boring than Aryas.SuperJail Warden wrote:

I meant in the books. Did it go somewhere in the books yet? I literally threw my hands up and yelled at Arya's actions in the episode today. The whole thing has obviously been one big waste of time.DesertFox- wrote:

She's grown up and is no longer full of hatred. She's not running away and hiding and planning to kill people from the shadows. She's going to return as Arya Stark and fight in the light against her enemies. That was the whole point of her drawing the sword.SuperJail Warden wrote:

Seems like something they could have wrapped up in season 5. There is no excuse for it to run all the way until mid season 6. Half of the scenes were just her getting beaten with a stick.
Top Gear was never good
