Can someone explain why/how pokemon is a thing?
for me it was my childhood show - it was on during the prime time getting ready for school at 7am, so i'd always watch an episode. then everyone would come to school and talk about that episode while trading cards, or using their gameboys and trading pokemon, or using their pikachu pedometer and shit.
high school didn't have pokemon much, it kinda died, and only now with pokemon go have people really exploded again as it's the original 150 pokemon that the now adults grew up with accessible and enjoyable on the daily commute.
the game itself is a great idea, with poor execution. the leveling is limited in that it is harshly exponential, which means the game itself is a grind. you can only catch pokemon and put them in gyms. you can't see other players, trade with them, or even chat, add friends. no clans or groups outside the three colours. it's a very small game and i don't think it will last more than a couple of months for the majority as the grind required is just too sharp towards late game.
i mean it's at the point where the meta is to pidgey farm, use a lucky egg and evolve them all to get xp. it's getting a bit much.
