That's like saying to a musician that listening to music is like work.
ended up getting a promotion at my current job for the same amount I would have been paid at ^^this^^ job. So that's a plus.pirana6 wrote:
Well I went back on this.pirana6 wrote:
fuck now I'm regretting this. I didn't take the (slightly) higher paying job with a better title and more independence because I guessed it wouldn't be as enjoyable?pirana6 wrote:
was offered the job. will turn it down. the extra money + better title isn't worth it imo. It's not outrageously more money.
I'm an idiot. Well I guess it's a good learning opportunity.
I emailed the person back and said I acted to hastily, regret my decision, acknowledge my reasons were unfounded, etc. etc. I tried to be as humble as possible and told her if the position opened up again down the line I would be interested - secretly hoping it would still be open now and she'd reconsider me (I emailed her back less than 24 hours after initially declining).
Here's where the story gets interesting... I was expecting her to say something like, "Sorry we've already filled the position. Good luck in your search" or something like that. Instead she said, "We just hired the person that position will report to. I'll let him know your situation as well as the hiring situation on the whole and he'll be in touch."
Huh? You could offer me the position before he was there but a day later you have to wait for his approval? Odd.
He called me the coming monday and asked me to come down and talk with him about the position. I did and it was essentially another interview... fair enough, but he added at the end that it was basically down to me or they re-open the search and start-over. I figured since I had be approved from the people that already work there I would be in. Unfortunately he called yesterday and said he was going to re-open it. He gave me some spiel about it not being about me, that he would like me to re-apply, etc. Of course when it's you vs nobody and you lose... you have no intention of trying again. For all intents I came in last in a race of 1.
After ALL this, my boss put in to give me a raise/promotion. Nothing life changing - a grand a year or so - so I came out up - not necessarily ahead, but up.
tldr: Applied for job, was interviewed, was offered position, declined position, reneged on declination, was re-interviewed, was declined offer.
What a clusterfuck
I might have started a mutiny at work...

So I quit my job a couple of weeks ago and am in my notice period until the end of the year, had a couple of interviews last week and had two lined up today - the first is about a 5 minute walk from my house which is awesome considering my current commute is at least an hour each way.
They called back earlier today and offered me the job with a healthy pay rise - I accepted and called the second recruiter up to cancel going in as I'd accepted the other job (and I was tired and couldn't be bothered to go all the way there). He seemed a bit put down but thanked me for calling.
About an hour ago he called back to say the company were very interested in me and would consider offering more than the top whack they advertised the role at (which is about £25k more than my current salary) - I haven't even been for a face to face interview yet! I told him I'd consider changing my mind at that price and will meet them on Thursday...
Pretty funny turn of events, last week I was starting to think I'd made a cock up quitting without getting a job first but now I'm playing hard to get it looks like things are working out
