Computer shut down. Tried to turn it back on and the PSU started sparking. Hoping the PSU didn't take everything else with it.

I've had a PSU freak out, blow sparks, and leave a grid-shaped pattern on the wall behind it years ago. Scrubbed that shit off, swapped units, computer was fine. I didn't often come across dead PSU's that took the rest of the PC with them when I was in the repair business, either.
I think the PSU that failed on me was a mid-range Thermaltake, but don't draw any conclusions from that. They've tested reasonably well for reliability on reviews. I just don't go with cheap nowadays. Current PC is over five years old, and the only thing I've ever had to do was RMA the GTX 570 like two or three times. Better luck with the 770 and 980.

My arm is literally sore from having to scrape through such thick ice on my car this weekend. I almost wish I had a sling to just keep it stationary.

Is it supposedly worse here? The "polar vortex" stuff has only been recent, and occasionally we get some lake effect snow, but not nearly as much as the leeward side of of Michigan or Erie.

Chicagoland area. It's probably the same in that we have like 2.5 seasons. Hot summers, cold winters, and like a couple weeks of spring/fall a year

Irish pub down the street from me that had friends working there closed. The young person's bar a few blocks away was destroyed in a fire last year. The Mexican restaurant that has a bar is relocating to a bigger place on the other side of town.
