Interesting article from national review. It is a right wing magazine for anyone that doesn't know. It is about Trump's fake masculinity how it energizes feminism.

The masculinity of Trump is exactly the caricatured, counterfeit masculinity of the feminist fever dream. It takes the full energy of manhood and devotes it to sex, money, and power. It’s posturing masquerading as toughness and anger drained of bravery. (Is the man who recoils from Michelle Fields and obsesses over Megyn Kelly really going to take down ISIS?) Trump represents aggression channeled into greed. Apologies are for the weak, and self-sacrifice is for suckers. Trump is a kind of man that many people can recognize but none should emulate. He is the indefensible man.

He has brought out of the woodwork a bloc of people who apparently believe that the answer to political correctness isn’t truth and virtue but rather becoming what the other side most hates. If the other side polices language, then the answer is vulgarity. If the other side embraces diversity, then the answer is flirtation with white nationalism and white-identity politics. If the other side tries to cast men as dangerous, sex-obsessed bullies, well then hoist the middle finger, glory in Trump’s apparent sexual and financial success, and relish the whining of feminists and “betas” everywhere.

Trump’s masculinity is a cheap counterfeit of the masculinity that’s truly threatening to the cultural Left: man not as predator but as protector, the “sheepdog” of American Sniper fame. This is the brave man, the selfless man who channels his aggression and sense of adventure into building a nation, an economy, and — yes — a family. This is the man who kicks down doors in Fallujah or gathers a makeshift militia to rush hijackers in the skies above Pennsylvania. Or, to choose a more mundane — though no less important — example: This is the man who packs up the household to take a chance on a new job, models strength for his family when life turns hard, teaches his son to stand against bullies on the playground, and lives at all times with dignity and honor.

I look back to my own childhood. In 1985, I was 16 years old, and I was a nerd’s nerd. I toted graph paper and 20-sided dice to school to play Dungeons & Dragons at lunch. (I like to think I was the finest dungeon master Scott County, Ky., had ever seen.) When I wasn’t playing D&D, my nose was buried in Lord of the Rings, or the Shannara books by Terry Brooks, or the Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey. None of that contradicts what he said about Trump. His complaining about male physical decline fits right in with what he said about Trump. He mentioned the physical side of masculinity in the form of the military and action which Trump and many of his supporters clearly lack.

That sort of article lamenting how our lives becoming easier made us "soft" is just strange. Before technological innovations made our lives easier, you had to do stuff the hard way because there was no better option. I'm not sure if he realized those same hard as nails people were the ones who flocked in droves to buy lawnmowers, washing machines, fuckin' Roombas because it gave them a choice of not having to endure unending toil. I'm almost tempted to write a satirical comparison how humanity has gone soft compared to our ancestors because we can't really handle eating raw meat anymore.

It's such a drag that I have to sit at a computer drawing all this stuff out in CAD rather than sketching it out by hand and handing it over to a draftsman who would take days to make a single copy. It's terrible that they now make table saws that stop turning when they sense the electrical properties of skin rather than wood. Missing fingers was so much more real.

whenever people make the 'we're lazy and soft now' polemic, it is normally a rant made by a guy on behalf of some spurious 'macho' masculinity. there's also always a fuckload of backlash from feminists who say: fuck you, 80% of the consumer goods revolution was to take the strain off our domestic work. all very well for a guy to complain about the convenience of everything when he's never had to spend 4 hours a day scrubbing floors, washing and drying clothes outside, and preparing the family meal. etc. it's mostly always bullshit. who wants to hear a white college graduate berate other white college graduates because of their comfy lifestyles?

I'm going to teach them how to be self sufficient, but no, I'm not going to teach them to be a snob about it.

In all reality though, we live in a knowledge on demand society now. "Is there any practical reason to know how to change a car tire until you have one burst on you? Then the knowledge is a quick youtube video away."

I like learning for the sake of learning, but I hear that opinon more and more often as an excuse for ignorance.

I took up vegetable gardening two years ago and my wife was amazed that it turned out well. "How do you know so much?" Well, I read 10 books on the topic and did countless Google searches before I put the first plant in the ground.

My problem tends to be that once I learn how to do something well I get bored and fuck off to something else. This year's garden was a mess because I had too many other distractions.
