You are a dope if you think that counts as people exercising self determination. You are carrying water for a dictatorship. The biggest reason for doing so probably stems from your dislike of Obama instead of your respect for Wilson's ideas. He would have outright rejected armed expansion.
Look, we brought it upon ourselves. We meddled in Ukrainian elections and we attempted to bring them into the EU and NATO. Russia's primary warm water fleet base is in Sevastapol on the Crimean Peninsula, so we created a direct threat to their national security on multiple fronts. The Obama administration pushed the envelope too far and it backfired. Time to move on.

Now you are parroting Russian conspiracies. The Ukrainian people protested against their Russian backed president who then ordered security forces to put it down. The CIA did not force the protesters to go out onto the streets. There wasn't some conspiracy. Ukraine wanted the same economic progress people in Poland were getting through EU cooperation. Russian couldn't let that happen because they want the rest of Europe to be as miserable as they are.

Next you are going to tell me Obama started the Arab Spring and started the Libyan and Syrian civil wars.

I don't care how foul you think someone's beliefs are, running up to them and punching them in the face (as a masked coward, no less) isn't how you improve the world. IIRC the Nazis didn't come to power in a vacuum, it was largely in response to ordinary people getting fed up with communists and anarchists rioting constantly. Hell, I want to be out there swinging a Billy club on them and I hate Spencer and his beliefs as much as they do.

your readings are getting more and more bizarre. people did NOT support the nazi party because anarchists and communists were ruining the show. i'm willing to bet you haven't read a single book in your fucking life on the weimar republic.

He was empowered by Hindenburg because labor unions were running amuck and shutting down the country. There's a reason that the first thing he did was throw the communist and labor leaders in prison: it was popular.

One of the guy's political positions is "peaceful" ethnic cleansing. Violently opposing someone advocating and working towards extreme violence doesn't seem unreasonable. Because we all know how Nazi's respect other people's rights.

Their only path to power is if people feel unsafe, whether it be from a poor economy, or racial tension, or a portion of society that is always agitating and rioting at the drop of a hat. They're called right wing reactionaries, right? They're reacting against some other persons action. The lawlessness of anarchists like we saw in DC yesterday is exactly how they get people to listen to them. You see a douche bag getting punched, but your average tv viewer sees a guy dressed like a thug with a mask on punching someone in the face. Not a good look. I'm terrified that the left's reaction to the election is going to push conservatives towards clamping down on free speech and protesting. No one wins then.

So it would be the fault of "the left" for "push[ing] conservatives towards clamping down on free speech and protesting", rather than those conservatives who decide to abolish two things guaranteed in the Bill of Rights? Conservatives already have a mass media arm to rile up their voters with scaremongering of wars on police, Sharia law immigrants supplanting our justice system, unfounded claims of voter fraud, and so on. They don't even need the left to actually do anything to make white people uncomfortable.

Most people are in the middle. They're not left or right, they generally want to feel safe and to be left alone as much as possible. If the right tried to clamp down on free speech without cause there would be tremendous push back (I hope anyway). So yes, I'm saying to accept the election results and pick your battles for resisting. No one wants to see 20-something ne'erdowells out protesting every time the wind blows. Constant BLM protesting and pipeline protesting and wall street protesting and... people are tired of it, they're not going to win hearts and minds by doubling down on it.

I concur that people have only so much attention to give and would further agree with you if there were, say, a protest for _______, every weekend, but that is not the case. Nothing today struck me as not accepting the election results, but as a warning against the new administration trying to do some of its crazier ideas. It's more of a "we're here and we're watching" than anything else.

I am confused with you conflating those rioting with protestors though. The people smashing shop fronts in DC were out clearly there to do ill, wearing masks and such things. Todays marchers aren't hiding their faces and have had these events planned for weeks. I don't disagree that people will tire of protests if they spring up at every turn, but I would argue that many people (likely myself included) aren't exactly tuned in enough to be aware of the things we should rightly get angry about. Not paying attention to what's happening in our country and zoning out is probably not the sort of citizenship the Founders envisioned.

You know how in a lot of fiction there is the trope that if you are an evil person your physical appearance will degrade and you become as ugly outside as within? Kellyanne is sort of like that in real life.

So apparently my parents are the most easily subdued people in the world. In a vaguely political discussion, my mom began to question what's the point of even protesting and everyone should just suck it up and get behind him because "we live in a democracy and the people voted" (which in the past 16 years, isn't the best argument to make). When I began to challenge her why we should make it easy for Trump to move towards aims we find objectionable, she began to yell that I was picking on her and my dad, no joke, yelled "this is really upsetting me!" Fuckin' baby boomer snowflakes.
