dumber than time travel when you lay it all out.
What could Rogue One have done differently when its sole purpose was apparently to mend plot holes? Could they have made the main characters a little more sympathetic with all the time given for exposition? Could it have stood on its own two feet without all the familiar hardware and new variants? Could they have brought the CGI characters out of that glowing, ethereal quality of an uncanny valley made all the more noticeable by being surrounded by actual flesh and bone? Not to tread on the abilities of the animators, but would replacement actors have worked better?

The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
I guess Katarn's hammy performance as a video game character was still more memorable to me than Rogue One or Force Awakens. Maybe Dark Forces would been a good movie. But I imagine it would follow the formula of stuffing it with too many extraneous, doomed characters the audience doesn't have time to get invested in.

TFA's characters were uninspiring I would give you that. Looking for memorable characters in R1 is silly though. The characters aren't supposed to be memorable or developed. They were spies sent on a suicide mission practically. That is the premise. Their mission is more important than their lives or personalities.
on a side note, I found it funny how many people in the movie theater groaned when Kylo Ren took off his mask and reveled himself to be dorky Adam Driver.
