There is a teacher party tomorrow I am going to. Teachers can throw some crazy parties. A lot scandalous shit goes down. Unfortunately this is a midweek party so no 3 AM drinking in a beach house this time.

The party was pretty much how anti-teacher activist assume teachers have parties. About 17 people showed up and the restaurant kept bringing out pitchers of sangria while we ate endless plates of seafood including lobster and shrimp. We stood until 12 AM. Nothing crazy happened because it was a Wednesday though.

Yes, many in this country think teachers are paid too much and do too little. They blame us for everything from feminism to gay children to low test scores. They think teachers are indoctrinating children to Marxism. There are tens of millions of Americans who think this. They are mostly Republicans.

these things come and go as trends. young people are insecure and impressionable. they gain their own momentum. i'm sure a lot of people who are very vocal trans/pan sexual people nowadays will very quietly go back to conventional lifestyles in 20 years. it will be like finding an old hippie who moved to haight-ashbury in the day. but that's okay. it doesn't mean transsexualism is intrinsically wrong. it just has a big cultural prevalence right now. i don't think teachers have much to do with it. has a teacher ever seriously affected your sexuality or outlook?
i don't mind schools being more inclusive and tolerant, even if teachers are now afraid to cause offence by using the wrong pronoun. compared to victorian/disciplinarian teaching, or the sort of abuse that passes for 'education' in boarding schools, i think it's alright. a lot more people have been psychologically fucked for life because school was a faux-military hazing house than those who went to nice cuddly liberal schools. you see some old boys like dilbert who have 17 chips on their shoulder well into their 50s, and you really wonder how rough school must have been.

That reminds me of a time my all black class got upset when I said that there was no historically significant black person they could pick to research for the 1870 to 1914 time period project. They bitched to a black woman teacher who confronted me to explain that there were important black people like NAACP figures that I could have let them pick.
I didn't have the heart but at least the good mind to not tell her that "There are no black Americans who are historically significant outside of the subfield of black history in the 1870-1914 period."
