Anyway, I moved the black kids around in the class today and gave them the new notebooks. The one in the back just sat there on his phone and ignored everyone else while the other one went to the bathroom for awhile before coming back and sitting quietly but not working.
Good enough for me. I just have to make sure the paperwork is in order to fail them but otherwise I think they will make it easy for me.
I watched a documentary about police in the uk trying to deal with dumb white men causing trouble in country towns.
One officer's theory was they all firmly believed they were going to be pro-footballers or rock stars making millions but couldn't deal with the reality of their actual lives - dreary and poor - and acted up as a consequence.
How many black kids don't believe they're going to be a pro-basketballer or the next Kanye West? Why would you study in school if you're certain of this?
Has the media promoted mediocrity or have the people done it themselves?
