the last one i went on was 3 days in Vegas. Some people don't get out much for whatever reason, so a bach party (or stag do, apparently) is a good excuse to get them out.

funnily enough the hen do was something like a holistic retreat in surrey. my friend, for better or for worse, is from essex, god's country, and there's a lot of unreconstructed people from essex. come to think of it, it probably was done in the spirit of the 1990s.
my last stag do before that, also from my university cohort, was a weekend trip down to margate to recreate an only fool's and horses episode from before any of us were born. i think this whole weekend boozing trip thing is possibly ironic and filtered through three generations of hipster appropriation. i can't even tell what's real anymore.
and yes, ken's right, it's one of those rare occasions in busy career-chasing middle age when huge groups of people get together. some are already shacked up in couples and don't come to regular drinks or events. others are living far away for work/studies. others are just embracing living alone or generally being a little less social and outgoing. there are no other occasions like weddings for getting 20-30 people together.
