people's sexuality or whether they want to consider themselves a man or a woman, matters not a whit to me. it's a private matter concerning single individuals. it is of no material or practical consequence to me: gay people having rights, or transgender people being legally recognised, isn't going to take anything away from me.
brexit is a national political decision, it affects every single aspect of public life, most significantly the economy and budget. this affects me. i have a stake in national polls and referenda, because i am a part of that citizenry. it is of material and practical consequence to my life: my freedom of movement, my earnings, even the value of the currency i spend.
