finally completed a little passion project this morning.

fitted out my Sennheiser HD600s with new earpads and headband. upgraded them with a Lavricables 14-core silver litz cable whilst i was at it (please don't harangue me about whether or not fancy cables do anything, the originals were wrecked). capped it off with a Viablue 6.35mm headphone jack.

the hd600s are probably the most classic all-round headphone of the last 25 years imo. i’ve had in-ears that sound better with less input (i.e. for phone or office listening), and no doubt there are finer options if you want to spend silly money nearer $1000. but rig these things up to an amplifier and the sky is the limit. they seem to go to higher and higher plateaus of fidelity, the more juice you give them. the only downside is that without proper amplification they can sound a bit gauzy and flabby.

these are open-back so there is no noise cancellation. wouldn't use them on a commute or around anyone else.

i use IEMs for noise cancellation, some RHA t20's, to be precise. they are really nice, especially with Comply tips to get a perfect 'seal'.

i don't really like using big over-ear headphones in public, they're just too bulky and leak noise, annoying everyone else. i do have some closed-back sennheiser hd-25s, too, mostly for DJ'ing as they are indestructible and punchy enough to cut through in loud environments. they're incidentally good for noise cancellation.

my main problem with bluetooth/wireless headphones is that 1/2 the cost seems to be for the connectivity. i'd rather have it go towards the actual audio drivers. a cable has never bothered me.

I have been using Momentum In Ear with comply tips for years, but my new phone doesn't have a headphone jack and I wanted to go wireless anyway.

I tried Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless first for a few days, but they wouldn't hold a charge. I ended up going with the Momentum 3's and couldn't be happier so far.

yeah, good shout with Comply. when you find the size/fit that suit your ear, they really do step it up a notch. getting a proper seal seems to suddenly find the bottom 250Hz of audio.

the Momentum 3's (unbelievably) cost about the same as the basic stock HD600s, but they are worlds apart in sound quality. i'm staying fiercely loyal to wired headphones for the foreseeable future. Apple are surprisingly decent about replacing the USB->headphone adapter that they sell, in the case of them breaking (which they do, often) within 12 months of purchase.

Unless one of you are already sick, it's probably a wasted effort. Health professionals and publications have been going on for some time about keeping your hands clean (especially after touching surfaces in frequent contact with hands), and not touching your face.

The sweat and the respiratory moisture are going to get into the filter material. This can impact how well the mask works. The more moisture in the filter, the harder it is to breath through the filter.

Also, when your face sweats, the respirator starts slipping around your face. This tends to make the respirator leak.

Then you have the outside. If you are taking the mask on and off, it is difficult to do without touching the outside of the mask which may be contaminated with the disease you are using the N95 for. This means your hands are contaminated. If you touch the outside if the respirator and don't immediately wash/sanitize your hands, you risk contaminating touch surfaces which can pass the disease on to others.

But if you absolutely need to reuse an N95, here is what CDC says.
