They're putting them on TV and giving them an audience, Anthony Burgess was right.

I'm also trying to catch up with the most recent season of narcos. I've been watching a lot of TV lately. I have a new book to read but i'm putting it off even though it's a light one
According to Variety, the premiere episode of “Westworld” Season 3 saw a drop of -57% from the premiere of Season 2. In pure numbers, the new episode was watched by 901,000 viewers, whereas the Season 2 debut was viewed by 2.1 million people. That’s a steep drop that has to concern HBO, who is hoping that the new episodes not only appeal to the hardcore viewers of the series but also attract new folks that might have been scared off by the reviews. Unfortunately, if the first episode’s numbers are any indication, the marketing and publicity failed.
How do you feel about the setting and overall direction of the series? Many people have complained that they shouldn't have taken the show out of the West World theme park. That basically the central premise of the show got chucked out of the window in favor of the show being a Matrix prequel. Speaking of which, prediction: season 4 will be set in a post apocalyptic Terminator hellscape. Let me know if I am right 2 years from now if the COVID didn't get one of us.
Not too bothered about the detail, I'll continue watching it.
We'll probably be watching season 4 from a post-apocalyptic hellscape.

Half way though Tiger King. What a roller coaster. I have actually come to like Joe Exotic.
I finished Tiger King. I don't believe Joe E. tried to have the lady killed. He was set up by Jeff Lowe.
Star Trek Discovery. 5/10, which seems high as I write this.
Why did I put myself through that. The actors are good, the overarching storylines are bad, the design of the Starfleet ships are bland blue, the camera is constantly Dutch angled or changing views every 3 seconds. Quality was up and down till the last ep of season 2. It had a few good episodes though.
I stopped paying attention during the s2 finale after 40minutes of constant space battle and crying.

Soft pass. Read more than I should about it. A captain who I guess deals with problems by being stereotypically "strong female character" unapproachable and snide? But no, the negative are just because of sexism (even this many years after Voyager)? I don't know if that's fair or accurate criticism of the show, but sexism is a tired excuse rolled out every time I see something with a female lead or leads get panned.
Also weary of the multiverse stuff. Bin established lore, but still make use of nostalgia triggers without putting work into keeping to continuity. Why are there tribbles? What the fantasy heck are these space spores? Just merge it with Doctor Who already.
Also I don't see myself subscribing to the CBS service.

She's not the captain the main captains are white males.
She's supposed to be Vulkan raised but it's usually ignored. Nothing wrong with the actress but every other character is better and more memorable than hers.
Spores were ok but they literally had to save the universe and all the multiverses in season one you can't top that stupidity.
I got a free month trial so I decided why not. Too bad the service largely sucks it took me an hour to watch a 45min episode cause of constant loading issues.

Fair enough. I thought she was the captain or something.
Is she part Vulcan? It's strange to me that Vulcans would raise a human child. You'd figure they'd realize that the healthiest thing psychologically for an emotional human kid is to be raised by a family that can accommodate that. Looks like fan fiction to me.

Sounds strenuous and fan fic 'inserty' just saying that out loud. Maybe it would be better if Spock ever had an adopted sister. Does the timeline even work for this being one of the permutations caused by the changing of events in the new Star Trek movies? Will they use Sybock at some point? No she's just the human adopted sister of Spock
Caught bits and pieces of The Crown from a trial netflix membership. Didn't expect to get into it, but I might start from the beginning.
Also lol @ disney+ censoring some of the old movies. Apparently a bunch of hair was awkwardly edited onto Daryl Hannah to make it "family friendly."

I still enjoyed season 3 of Westworld, they seem to work in every possible SF trope, its worth it just for Evan Rachel Wood.
Fuck Israel
Evan Rachel Wood is a dumb ass in real life. Her involvement with this show damaged her and it. Her involvement in a future project would make me less interested it in than more.
Whenever I see her on Westworld all I can think is that she is a poor substitute for Emilia Clarke.

Question, though: can a female-presenting robot sticking it to foolish male-presenting robots really qualify as a stereotypical strong female lead? I mean I haven't seen the series, but I imagine it much like Cars.
Or cats

Oh dear, Newbie. She isn't trying to overthrow the robo-patriarchy. She is a #MeToo avenger against the human patriarchy.

That is the first scene of the third season. Please watch and you will see how bad it is most importantly when E.R.W. shows up.

Was that the cold opening? Not the most grabbing, was it. Why did they start with stocks drama and not the Terminatrix infiltration?
From what little I've read about the Westworld series, I think Star Trek did this better in one episode arguing with Starfleet lawyers over whether or not Data was a person with rights. But I guess the power trip in that series was flying around in a ship that could probably crack suns if it wanted.

They started with the stock drama because they needed to build up that guy as a bad rich man before he dies because he did bad things to a robot who thinks it is a woman.
Westworld season one actually set in Westworld with cowboys and stuff was great. It just unraveled as it leaned more into sci fi and #MeToo

Was he just introduced here? He should have already been built up as the bad rich guy before this episode. They had two seasons to do it.
