Oh fuck, what a trip that was. I think the last time I heard this album was by the pool with my father when I was like 10. He'd just bought a new Klipsch sound system and would listen to it 8 hours a day on the weekends by just jamming the knob to eleven.

I heard this one a few weeks ago and it's been growing on me. I can't quite pinpoint it. Reminds me a little bit of James Blake's early stuff. Love the minimalism and the crescendo into the doo-wop.
any track that alludes to the she-wop she-wop / doo-wop doo-wop thing is going to be good.
james blake's early stuff was electronic and associated with the (post-)dubstep scene. i know cause i was there and was acquaintances with him. lots of house parties in new cross and lewisham. i was at his first ever live show, which had more people outside the venue craning to get a spot inside than actually in attendance, as well as BBC radio interviewing people in the queue. it was obvious he was going to be Big.
funnily enough an old bf2s member called bennisboy went to his school. they were schoolfriends i think, or in the same year group anyway.
only in the 2nd album did he go 'mature' and instrumental. the first few EPs and the first self-titled album were incredibly skippy and electronic.

yeah im not too intimately familiar with his career arc. I referred to "early James Blake" as a contrast to post-CMYK, where he seems to be doing not too bad these days. Good for him!
it's so wild that people can name-drop CMYK. that was THE house party tune for years. good stuff!
