I started watching Community. It has It's moments, but very underwhelming so far. I've watched maybe 5-6 episodes of the first season. Does it get better? At this point I think I'll slog through the first season and probably put it down.

Alcohol is a drug.
drug use takes place in every neighbourhood, including the rich suburbs.
the operative factor here is poverty and a lack of opportunity.
and yes, i know that they form sub-cultures that are not necessarily helpful or aspirational w/r/t bourgeois norms. we've had this conversation 100x before.

Are the Welsh really white though?

as the english's helpmeets, they have more cause for hope than your average african-american born in the projects. so i don't know what their excuse is.
Are the Welsh even real?
they're very real. i've spent most of my life within 25km of their border. they come down out of the valleys in packs and disembark from their mini-buses or taxis, the men with swollen traps and biceps and the women in stilettos and perm-tan, and proceed to get drunk out of their mind on a 'trip' to our proud english cities.

And you're sure that Wales isn't just a mirage, or some sort of swamp gas induced hallucination.uziq wrote:

This may bear investigation.

if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.
Butcher of Blaviken'd* it.
I have only watched a handful of RTHKI and Morty but I really found a few of the shows funny. The Mr. Meeseeks is the best.
I appreciate that after fans made a mess out of the whole szechuan sauce and pickle rick gags, the creators seemed to double down on double-edged mockery directed at the toxonerd community. But that still doesn't make it very good. I'm peripherally aware that it has its own comic books too since you like those?
I dunno, it strikes me as Dr. Who on flakka.

I don't like comic books. I only watched maybe 4 or 5 RTHKI and Morty episodes. Same with South Park. I am all about that Simpsons and Futurama.
I've watched most of it with friends, and half-wish I hadn't. Some of the gags are funny, but I don't think the show really bears a repeat viewing. It teases character development, then does the simpsons thing where it resets into goofy for the next episode. If you put it on again, I'd skip season 4 and most of 3.
I guess there was a Simpsons opening where Rick crashed his spaceship into their house and had to clone them.
Imagine storyboarding the episode with multiple parallel realities.

I’ve tried to watch it with friends. I find the alcoholic grandparent dynamic distasteful.
Strangely I’ve never found Homer Simpson’s alcoholism distasteful.

I've never understood why people are in love with Homer so much. "Best TV dad" who throttles his son on the regular. I've read somewhere that Matt Groening doesn't approve of spanking and wanted a comical way to convey Homer's frustration, and figured that it was irregular enough to pass. But it's still makes me uneasy seeing it resonate so positively among the demographic who were "beaten as children and turned out better and healthy for it!"
Whatever Rick has in his flask is probably at least partly composed of transdimensional drugs and mad science pharmaceuticals.

Homer Simpson is not the same man that Simpsons fans met in the first seasons, and he has now become "Jerkass Homer". Here's what it's all about.
I watched the first season as a kid and thought he was a jerk then. I know some of the characters changed, but it's still weird to me seeing people all like "yeah, Homer's a jerk now!" as if he wasn't ever.
I thought that was the whole point to the character.

Re: Rick and Morty
One thing that makes me not want to watch that show fully is how self referential it is. I can't be bothered to invest in this nerd shit. This show likes to smell its own butt it seems.
Futurama and the Simpsons resetting the universe after every episode is clearly the superior format to Rick and Morty's style.

Maybe TV has sunken so low that it becomes a point of positivity among viewers when a show can remember things that happened more than five episodes ago and reference them again wink wink nudge nudge. "Wow, there's a consistent timeline!"
At least the gag plot here spared us from an Atlantis episode.

Can't watch Seinfeld clips on youtube. That laugh track is just so bad and distracting.
Get the fuck outta here. You're bad and distracting.
