jeans are pretty hard to do well. we call it the 'jeans & sheuxs' here. it's a very common target of ridicule. people who wear stonewash or indigo jeans with semi-smart shoes. even better if you throw in a sports jacket or blazer. good god. 99.95% of people do it horrendously.

One of the best things in my wardrobe is a pair of solid black levis. Grey & black are good colours for pants.

In the privacy of your own home where noone sees you: fine. But when you exit the house and you're not going to the gym, why ever wear sports clothing? It looks tacky. Wear jeans, chinos etc.

To me it's like this: we all like to see a woman who's well dressed and obviously takes care of herself - it's the same the other way around. Even men, they treat you better if you at least look like you got it together. A jogger just screams lazy slob to me.
You shouldn't wear jeans unless you are a miner or working on a farm. You shouldn't wear chinos unless you are a British colonial soldier on a march.
To expand on my point, I would say wearing gym clothes as everyday clothes is very much a millennial/Gen Z urbanite thing. A cultural signifier?

Do you think the Duck Dynasty people dress like that in their spare time?

You're really going to contrast sports clothing with a bunch of rednecks to argue that it's good?

American urbanite culture maybe, not here - thankfully.

American culture is pretty much urbanite vs redneck. What else to compare it to?

It's the popularisation of poverty dress really, if I have to put it bluntly. First it was oversized ill-fitting clothing, now it's sportswear - both imported into the mainstream by all the popstars and rappers who grew up in ghettoes and projects. Over here it's the same, where a full adidas tracksuit is considered some sort of status and culture thing in dilapidated city districts full of unemployment and crime.

If you want a lesson in style visit madrid or northern italy.

Poverty clothing is what you buy at Walmart. Sports wear can be pretty expensive and trendy. If anything sports wear in America is more a show of status. Fit people who can afford healthy food and time to work out aren't really inhabiting public housing. No one here wears full ADIDAS tracksuits anyway.

it might have started out as like celebs on the run to and from the gym/personal trainer or out and about being papped. but it's very normie already now. i think athleisure is already on the way out.

I know it exists macbeth; I can see it. It looks absolutely terrible nonetheless. If the weather is warm, opt for shorts and a shirt, a pair of espadrilles - it's not complicated. Who the fuck goes for those ghastly three quarter leggings and a tank top

It would legit be cool if China and Russia went nuclear on just each other as soon as possible.
If they could both take out India that would be great.

Might as well hit Pakistan if we are just going to erase Asians we don't like.

You're right, India and Pakistan.

I think the ideal would be for Russia to take out India, Pakistan and China, then they can expand south instead of west and we wouldn't have to listen to bores tell us how they climbed part way up everest because everest would be flat.
Fuck Israel

A lot of Americans can't even afford actual food on the regular, to go to the doctor, or a college education. Making rent, not to mention utilities, can be a perpetually stressful affair. Do we think we can cut at least some of them a little slack on not having an expansive business casual wardrobe, or not being raised with that as a focal point?

From 2017:

But yeah sure punch down on poor Americans wearing rags from Walmart, Amazon, and things from Goodwill. Is it any wonder crooked politicians can use that as a hook?

Are you referring to me? All I'm saying is that athletic clothing is pretty fine to wear if you are running errands or visiting something.

Just in general. It seems a rather sharp-tongued segue in a pandemic thread, about a country where the pandemic is this bad.

Post 1: ND/SD rates are sky high and Texas is paying prisoners $2 to transfer plague bodies with scant PPE.
Post 2: Americans wear ratty tennis shoes, haha! Should be a little formal like Spain!

Why does this need to be here? We have a fashion thread.

So I'm the least offensive person on this page.

I told you I made a breakthrough.

I don't think anybody can top "I-hope-you-all-die" Jay for the title of most offensive in the pandemic thread. He's still king here, even in absentia.

a quarter of a million americans had died and jay was misquoting basic car fatality statistics. jay seriously thought something like 100x more people died in car crashes every year. i mean like his figures were so off that basically more people were supposed to die in automobile wrecks than be born every year. your population was thinning thanks to general motors.

I don't know if I'd even trust Jay with an air conditioning contract. He might spend all day coughing in the ventilation duct.
