You'd think so, I had an Indian CAD designer,/engineer he was well paid, he still worked nights as a security guard for peanuts and was half asleep all day. You'd think they'd focus on doing well in their main job but no, they're all out driving taxis or cleaning offices.

Well it's not outside the realm of possibility that some choose to work even more if they are supporting a (large) family in the home country. That said I've worked with many people from India/China in the past and I didn't meet one who alongside an actual good job held down one or multiple side jobs.
maybe even some of them are working extra hard to buy their parents a home, rather than to live at home with their parents like dilbert.

what's the relevance of the minimum wage in australia being the median wage in the UK? are the living costs the exact same? someone making a median wage in the east midlands or stoke-on-trent probably feels less poor than someone on minimum wage in a major australian city, no?

I am finding myself becoming rather furious about the increasing whining over vaccination now that multiple governments are considering that one needs a proof of vaccination before attending public venues. That this would infringe on medical privacy rights, or create a discriminatory government and society! After all, non-vaccination is a but a choice that should be respected! I even saw someone compare it to the persecution of jews, your non-vaccination akin to a star of david.
Fuck this mentally defective subset of the population. I'm so through with all the bullshit artists who use the pandemic as a time to stand on a soapbox and pronounce the end of civil society because any attempt to control the virus spread 'infringes' on their rights and feelings, and their feelings about what their rights are. It's also darwinism at work: when finally a suitable medical solution presents itself, the stupids have been so thoroughly inundated with anti-vax nonsense found via google and social media they no longer dare to accept that extended hand of help. But then to still have the gall to complain that society shouldn't limit you from doing anything!

This reminds me of the differences between positive and negative freedom or something like that I learned in school once. Some people see freedom as "I can do what I want" and other people see their freedom as "I am free from specific coercion or forces".
And frankly in America it is mostly white people who make a major fuss and are obnoxious and political about the first one. They can't or better yet choose to not acknowledge that "freedom to not die from a disease" is a right. I think it is largely a matter of comfort and privilege for them to take part in advocacy of the freedom to be obnoxious.
