Anyhow that doesn't sound entirely true. If you think rock's dead, maybe you haven't been listening.

I am admittedly enjoying my cheap Luna uke more these days. Space-saving, easily portable, chill sound.

I could be practicing on them more as well as my keyboard, but I prefer to think of them as toys more than an obligation.
if the bottom circle of hell is soundtracked by bagpipe players, then the next circle up for the less-bad bastards surely has ukulele accompaniment.

surely one of the most irritating instruments ever conceived. i can picture the long-haired beardy types playing them in british parks even now. insufferably twee.

Did you know young people aren't trying musical instruments like they used to? Nobody wants to be a rock star. They want to be DJs. Drums, guitar, etc? Big decline among American youth.
this comes and goes in waves, like every fashion. 10 years ago people wanted drainpipe skinny jeans; now it's flares and loose fabrics.

at a certain point the pop-culture/radio waves/spotify playlists get inundated with identikit shit. this has been happening, regrettably, with electronic music for a while now. first it was EDM and now even 'techno' is just becoming an irritating word on the tongues of teenagers.

we look back in retrospect and talk about 'landfill indie' in the UK: all those bands which seemed so cool and fresh in NME aroundabout 2007 or whatever. a million libertines and bloc party clones. rock reached a peak and then people just wanted a different flavour. that's ok. now they've had 10 years of the same 4/4 drum loop and avicii/david guetta hands-in-the-air shite.

the next generation will probably all be super into post-punk and guitar music.

In the past decade, electric guitar sales have plummeted, from about 1.5 million sold annually to just over 1 million. The two biggest companies, Gibson and Fender, are in debt, and a third, PRS Guitars, had to cut staff and expand production of cheaper guitars. In April, Moody’s downgraded Guitar Center, the largest chain retailer, as it faces $1.6 billion in debt. And at Sweetwater.com, the online retailer, a brand-new, interest-free Fender can be had for as little as $8 a month.
I would like to get a new black guitar to hang my hat on. But I have no space.

I think I know the kind of player you're talking about. I'm a little self-conscious in my instrument playing. You won't find me hauling my uke out out of the back of the car unasked for to serenade the public with Over the Rainbow.

i am glad that god invented an illness specifically for bagpipe players. for DJ's and dance aficionados, he gave us MDMA.

God I hate bagpipes. Whenever I hear them I think police and fire department ceremonies.

When the cultural revolution comes maybe the American Red Guard will take away everyone's bagpipes like they took away China's violins.

It's an obnoxious instrument.

like so much 'scots' traditions - the 'clan' plaid patterns, the kilts, the bagpipes, etc - it was all consciously made up, or at least highly spruced up, by nationalists in the modern era, too. the bagpipes as a 'tradition' is probably about as old as the first fucking scots emigrants to the united states.

in fact i'm pretty sure all the actual scots descendants, those who make up the hillbillies of appalachia and so on, played the fiddle or another stringed instrument. not a single fucking bagpipe to be seen.

Are they counting second-hand sales? Open up craigslist.

Guitar Center is such a mixed bag. A lot of the people I met working there are either clueless and barely going through the motions, or total gatekeepers. I don't know what the corporate culture is like there, but maybe don't take it out on someone asking if your store does a particular service or carries a particular item.

I would just go to a corner of the store and fiddle with the Casios when taken there as a kid.

Prefer Music & Arts. Still a chain store, but smaller and more enthusiastic. I don't go in often, but I'll usually buy something when I'm there. Extra picks, random music book, whatever.

there isn't much cucking going on there.

that's a callow, immature teenage girl who has created a situation she can't control and is trying to manipulate her way out of it.

undoubtedly spoiled by her parents. used to throwing a tantrum or playing things for sympathy. mummy will sort it.

but not a cuck scenario.

Once, I think, was very young. Mostly I remember (mentioned recently) hanging around them from time to time giving them the good stuff they couldn't reach from their side of the fence. Everything I know about actual horsemanship I learned from 2am youtube videos and the occasional documentary. All theory, no practice on my part.

I live in established prairie 'burbs, not the sticks. We don't really have any more horse farms or cow farms. Nearest horses I know of are like 20 minutes out. Cattle further down the highway. How much time have you spent as a cowhand?

Tell us more about what's in your reddit feedbag.

I don't know, maybe? I was pretty young during the time I lived in the literal sticks (and didn't spend long there). It's like one of those impression memories. Could've been at a ranch or at a demonstration for little kids at a rodeo sideshow. I went to basketball camp, not farm camp. Got pretty good at corner shots.

Was more of a Huskies person, so probably not.

It might surprise you to learn but not everyone in that church, or formerly from the church, have lives that do or have revolved around it. I don't even use it as a meme, like you do when you decide you're Catholic for the day.

When can we expect your alternate persona who went on a Mormon mission to South America? Temple vows with your work subordinate, planning the gender reveal party for your 14th child. Getting out of the house with the Other Men so your wives can exchange dreaded female gossip. Maybe when you finally retire as a grandpa at 45, you'll go teach English in rural China for a couple years and then return home with some daring foreign décor to display above your fireplace.

There aren't a lot of Mormons on the East Coast. The only time we see or hear about them is on television or if you see these people walking around trying to talk to you about their thing.

It is kind of a meme to us. Probably not a lot of Catholics in Utah either. I would assume they have funny ideas about Catholics too. For what it is worth, I like Mormons a lot. Some of the ideas of the religion make more sense than Catholic doctrine. And since there are so few Mormons around here, they aren't a political force or showy and obnoxious. I suspect I would feel very different if I grew up in Utah or something.

I would convert to Mormonism, Orthodox, or even Protestantism if I met a girl who was really serious about me having my paperwork in order. If I ever had kids with a Jewish girl, I would want the children to be raised Jewish.
