ironically for all the AI chat above, i'm pretty sure all the generative AI slop is gonna replace coders and CAD monkeys like dilbert a long time before it replaces me. how long until boston dynamics invent a robot that will superannuate beef patties like jay in the HVAC industry?

That sucks. Really positive mindset though.unnamednewbie13 wrote:
bad and good:
bad: bunch of my stuff got stolen from storage. thieves cut their way in. maybe 4k in tools and books collected over the years. probably much less for resale.
good: it's all gone. i don't have to go through any of it. i'm not responsible for hazmat or cleanup. the boxes i had locks on were all busted open and abandoned there, destined for the dumpster. i no longer have to think about having stuff in different spots, or paying for storage, or moving it around. freeing, really. one step closer to digital nomadism.
so, less annoyed than i thought i'd be. some people in my circles were more annoyed, on my behalf. i've been thinking of it in positive terms all day. maybe the stolen stuff bought someone something they needed, or brought someone happiness (i wasn't doing much with it). in addition, it's not like i had everything i own burn away in a big fire or flood.
the books, at least, i'll maybe buy replacements for over time in deep discount digital copy. there might've been a console game or two in there but heck if i can remember.
everything is (mostly) replaceable, with the glaring exception of an heirloom item built by my grandpa. losing that sucked. i really hope it ends or ended up with someone who appreciates it.
…is accurate, more or less.uziq wrote:
