Shifting goal post is something I noticed with these people too.

They told our generation "go to college and get an education." Once their kids turned out to not be college capable or couldn't afford it suddenly "you don't need college to be successful."

i think that's just a cultural expression of a very real shift in the economy. the middle-class has been squeezed, elite professions are either closed shops or have been aggressively (and loudly) recruiting from minority/special backgrounds, and the boomers who benefit from the speculative rise in property and asset prices don't want to reach down to help up the younger generations. couple that with the fact that universities (and university-educated 'elites') have been explicitly targeted by populists for ideological reasons, as part of the culture wars.

the value of a university education has been reassessed in both terms of economic return-on-investment and cultural prestige. there's been a post-trump renascence in 'red state' cultural values that is kind of putting manosphere-adjacent blue-collar vibes over desk work. see all the hit tv shows about oil men and ranchers and everything else; it's kind of like a revival of the simple, unlettered, straight-shootin' reagan 'a cowboy-from-hollywood' aesthetics.

plus biden started giving out loan forgiveness during his term. see above about resentment.

i wouldn't have been surprised if trump threw those people under the bus, but i guess we're speedrunning down all the bad ending forks in this story.

i really just can't understand the stupidity of that man setting a bomb under his own political ambitions like that. must be classic hubris from a not-too-bright individual.

all he had to do was keep off social media during the xmas holidays.

instead he decided to go on a giant tirade, on a topic clearly close to his own heart (read: personal grievance), about how the american worker is indigent, lazy, and no good. on their main national holiday and week off. with the eyes and ears of the whole nation listening to the rumblings from the trump train and amplifying all news/gossip.

tremendously dumb. how do you ever run for high office when you have called that entire country inferior and deficient in public?

I could tell he was fucked when he got a placement on DOGE instead of something with a title and paycheck. The DOGE thing was way before he complained about Americans being lazy but it is still a nonsense thing.

I assume the stuff about culture and blah was stuff V.R. has said about black people in private during his career. People probably agreed with it and he thought it was applicable to white Americans. Clearly not.

This current administration is so clearly not at all interested in being seen as not racist. You have to have really internalize racism to not see it as a brown person. It reminds me of 2002.
