Being described as a "Harry Potter" girl is crazy to me. I guess i have a tiny bit of jealousy towards people who make their life and personality about one thing. It seems such a simplistic way to live, but also those people seem to be happier.
I have a friend who is a Disney person. She plans 90% of her vacations around visiting various Disney parks around the world. Watches disney tiktoks and follows disney insider insta pages. Uses weird coded lingo when talking about disney. Its fucking weird, but it's also a very simple thing that brings her an incredible amount of joy.
Sometimes I just want to be a simpleton
Thinking is hard.
Some people just want to switch of their mind and let someone else do it, hence we have religion, sportsball, etc.

maybe it was funny like the first few times. it's weird to me though that this meme is still a thing in 2025. feels like it migrated into the older demographics who trip over themselves to make a huge point of how they don't care about sports.snippet wrote:
And, while there are asshole fans, most sports fans are just normal people trying to get through the day and enjoy something. Would you walk up to a graphic designer and say "Oh do you do the paint-draws?" or a music fan and say "Have a good time at the song-show, I don't understand that stuff at all."
I'm a football fan, and every year I throw a big party for the Super Bowl. I cook a ton of great food and invite a bunch of people. Inevitably, one of the folks will start up with "Oh man Sportsball! When do they hit the home run!". They know that home runs aren't a thing in football, they're just choosing to demean a thing I'm passionate about while eating the snacks I made.
One day when I own a home I look forward to hosting a Superbowl party. I don't care about football but want to experience the whole having guest over and enjoying a party.

I also want to do a dinner party too. By "do a dinner party" I mean "stress out the poor woman I am dating into cooking and looking pretty at the same time."

i'm not super into (american) football, but the gatherings for it can be nice as just a social occasion. i was at one where the seahawks got robbed by the stealers (everyone saw it). more time was actually spent doing BBQ in the host's back yard than around the tv. water balloons got involved somehow.
if football wanted me as a fan, they should have released a movie equivalent of Major League around that time.

disappointingly, my high school canned its baseball program, but pumped tons of money into football.

I went to a eurovision party with some christians once.
Drank all their cider and avoided getting lumbered with some nutty troglodyte.
Went well overall.
Sportsball is just too stupid and makes me too angry.
Could not survive.

I'm pretty adept at removing myself from situations where people overstupid.

if watching sports make you angry, imagine how tilted you'd get over a book store lady actively interacting and talking to you about heinlein or something. i know you're not american, but still makes one shudder.
Yeah I don't know, I try to get in and out of book stores quickly.
Last time the sales girl asked which was my favourite John Wyndham. Not going back.
If Jeff Bozos treated his staff better I'd probably buy from Amazon to avoid the social interaction.

Another Oscars night. Another bunch of movies winning that no one watched.

i've seen the brutalist. it was aiiight.
haven't seen anora even though it was a MUBI-type release and is pitched really at my kind of audience. looks meh, don't care about that sort of story. guess i should see it to see what all the fuss is about.
i think it's pretty sad/funny that wicked now has more oscars than the entirety of david lynch's filmography. RIP.

Ariana Grande should have won for Wicked. Her performance was great. The movie also has genuine mainstream success. I am pretty sure it made more money than all of the other movies nominated combined.
...
Broadway shows and musicals. Those are popular with the type of girls I attract. I try to explain to the yn's I work with the importance of knowing this girl shit.

i'm not saying that wicked is a bad movie. it sounds like a very accomplished film.
it's more a comment on the sort of movies that 'the academy's shadowy voters prefer, and how some of america's most influential film-making goes without much recognition. same goes for genres like horror, not to make it seem like an arthouse vs. mainstream thing. almost totally overlooked because the boomer-pilled voters don't like scary films.

did anyone see this one? this seemed to be the critic's pick.

I didn't much like Anora. It was like watching softcore porn in a cinematic setting, and the story wasn't good enough to keep my interest. It was a little too jumbled for my taste.uziq wrote:

Adrien Brody was very good in The Brutalist, and i knew based on his performance he'd be a very strong candidate for Best Actor. Not surprising in the least.
No. She is not a good actress.SuperJail Warden wrote:

i'll have to check it out. the shot in the thumbnail is crazy. found myself clicking back to 1:08 a few times just for the lowkey vertigo.uziq wrote:
