i didn't use emojis for years after their introduction. i do not use them in works comms. no funny business. we are not friends. except me and those guys who do coke together outside of work. and those girls who came with us a few times. they get a smiley face.

it seems to be customary to include one at the end of a sentence or a message, as if to indicate the overall tone/tenor of the message, a sort of emotional-affective declension. i get it - although lots of ambiguities are created by the fact that different emojis signify different 'tonal' registers to different generations/audiences.
