Yeah, I am leaning on the whole Catholic thing, right now. If I understand the religion correctly, it is about sacrifice and duty even to those who will not appreciate it. That and being weird about sex.


The next group I want to riff on...trad Catholics.

What the fuck is this? I have been to church once in the last 25 years and I can tell you that maybe the Protestants were right about needing to go to these.

It wasn't bad. It was boring. Who goes to a normal Catholic Church and thinks 'I really wish this were slower and more formal.' Marx said "religion is the opium of the masses." Nowadays you can get opium in disposable vapes.

No need to visit the local sexual predator to get closer to God.

By the way, I can say all of this because I am very Catholic. I have a Masters Degree from a Catholic university. Cost me $40,000. I don't intend to ever pay that money back to the government.

But truly, I don't understand the Trad Catholics who also want to deport all of the Catholics.

Trad Catholics in America really out here siding with the Jews. Sorry to interrupt I just want to clear up something about this post.

I realize I am part of same hypocrisy since I am donating my time to help the Democrat Jewish lady beat the Republican Italian Catholic.

I saw one good post on reddit that said "Those people on Twitter with the Catholic or Roman profile pictures are often Indians and Pakistanis trying to troll the other one." So you get some Trad Catholics on Twitter who is really angry about Indians in Canada. Meanwhile there is a Trad Catholic on Twitter talking about how Israel, Indian and the U.S. should bomb Muslims.

This is your fault for giving all of us brown people your language.

the kind of people who would guffaw at your above posted student loan comic, mac, complain endlessly and bitterly about their own financial hardships and how unfair debt collection and the government and taxes and general cost of living are specifically to themselves. they want to punch down on college graduates, but can't from their position neck-deep in wet cement.

"you took out a loan, pay it back," snicker people who even mooch off family to the tune of thousands. a whole spiderweb of mooching.

They don't want other kids competing with their kids, isn't that what most of it amounts to?

Putin got everything he wanted, Trump couldn't even get an interim ceasefire.

To be fair Trump hasn't actually engineered a conflict - he's probably not smart enough.

Its an interesting negotiating strategy though - give the other side everything they ask for and ask for nothing in return.

i think ukraine is really screwed if the aid stops. the entire russian economy since the 1990s (if not the 1950s) has been tooled towards stripmining assets and creating oligarchs on the one hand, and maintaining a massive (if grossly corrupt and inefficient) military on the other. like, that's it. they've got enough natural resources and enough back-channels/grey market economic arrangements to keep their war machine humming along for a very long time.

there was a lot of talk when sanctions were initially placed about how their entire military depends on fancy european engineering, tank components from italy, plant tools from germany, etc. but actually it seems like they're fine bombarding ukraine with iranian (or turkish) drones and getting the north koreans to send them their pirated military hardware for the rest of all time.

russia has a pretty small (official, white) economy, but evidently deep reserves when it comes to sustaining a war. 'it has a GDP smaller than spain!' etc. yes, but russia also has millions of yokels from the far-east to throw into the meatgrinder, plus willing allies in the endeavour. and the economy of spain is set up for accommodating sunburnt brits and german tourists, not for waging war. russia is a fully militarised society, complete with the wailing mothers who only wished they'd produced 5 more sons to die on the frontlines, etc.
