all those big name big stage shows are for finance bros from wall street. it's a corporate event. what is the appeal of that? the crowd will be full of people in white shirts with the top 4 buttons undone.

you can hear better sound-systems and much more engaging dj's at about 7 other venues on any night of the week.

go to nowadays in brooklyn. that is currently doing legendary all-weekend parties with some of the world's best talent.

plus the vibe looks way more fun, open and inviting than a soulless EDM fest surrounded by chuds in manhattan.

I listened to their self-titled album a decent amount but I put Full Circle by Hiero in my discman in 2003 and it didn't come out until probably 2005. I had every song nearly memorized.

That whole clique put out some of the most iconic rap of the late 90s/early 2000s. Punching above their weight. Souls of Mischief, Styles of Beyond, Heirogylphics. That bay area rap sound was pretty unique.

GY!BE touring. they made an album recently with some anti-zionist title.

the big news is my bloody valentine are touring again this year/early 2026.

i've entered a lottery for tickets in tokyo/osaka, but they're also playing a bunch of stops in the UK. absolutely worth flying home for and taking 13 years off this choking muckball's life expectancy.

Wife donated money to our local NPR station and won Jahari Stampley tickets. Went last night and it was pretty cool. His horn player is his mom (obviously a very musical family) and his drummer is a 21 year old.

That said, for my bday the wife got me tickets to Buena Vista Social Orchestra
Granted the original members are basically all dead but BVSC's self titled album from 1997 is in my top 5 favorite albums

I've been to Kylie concerts and I didn't feel threatened at all.

is there anything you'd like to tell us? in a space of love and understanding, of course.

In Australia its perfectly normal to go to a Kylie concert, it would be considered abnormal and suspicious not to go.

Not really feeling this is a safe space TBH, more the genesis of my villain origin story.

haha, that's rad. people seem to be nostalgic for pop punk and MTV-era frosted tips music.  sure beats what's out there now.

this fall/winter i have some immense gigs lined up:

my bloody valentine
autechre
labyrinth festival
and seeing a recital of steve reich's 'music for 18 musicians', conducted by joe hisaishi (of studio ghibli fame).

MBV and autechre are two long-life bucket list kind of acts. both unforgettable in their own way. to be able to hear them here is so lucky.

and hearing one of the world's most talked about outdoor speaker rigs in the mountains of japan ...

Yeah it was a good time. My GF grew up with Dexter's nephew, so we had backstage passes and got to hang out with the band. I tried to upload a pic but for some reason imgur wont cooperate.

They put on a really good show! The first two acts were New Found Glory and Jimmy Eat World lol, so we stayed in the lounge until Offspring came on.

It's interesting to me that 3 of the seminal socal punk bands (Offspring, Bad Religion, The Descendants) have highly educated, Masters/PhD level lead singers.

it's a fun tidbit, i remembering reading about that as a teenager; but isn't that basically one of the most affluent and well-educated places in the world, anyway? the whole orange county thing?
