Right basically i try to play battlefield and it will display the splash screen and then rturn to desktop, this is what i have tried to fix it so far:

Uninstalling/reinstalling
different patches
all patches, incrementals and full
deleting registry files and scanning with adaware and ccleaner
renaming "BF2.exe"

and i think that would be it yes.

This is the error message i recieve:

"Debug assertion failed!

I would really appreciate any help that i can get, i've tried so many things and so many websites and this one seems to come closest to my problem, the error message is from the un patched version btw.

I have come to the conclusion that EA are wank faces.

I'm not nearly the most competent when it comes to technical support such as this, but based on the fact that the error message references the DX9 Renderer I would highly suggest updating your video drivers and see if that helps.

Hopefully someone more familiar with BF2 error messages can give you more specific instructions soon enough.

Definately something up with your Direct X, try installing re updating it or something - sorry

try reinstalling direct X 9c

Uninstall your graphics drivers (ATI provides a full uninstallation utility on their site I believe, not sure about NVdia), then reinstall the drivers.

ok thanks everyone i wil try this, i have reinstalled direct x 9c already though, i will try again, thanks! any other tips will be appreciated

I had a similar problem and ended up backing up all my data, then reinstalling windows and everything else from scratch. 

I believe the problem to be 2 fold.  Corrupted Video Drivers and Corrupted DirectX File(s)

Isn't uninstalling you graphics card, and direct x drivers, rebooting and installing them, a quicker way then reinstalling Windows entirely

it is.  However when mine crashed I decided to do a lot of cleaning up and reinstalling of just programs I use every day.
