Hi guys,
Everytime I start BF2 (only recently I think) my task manager also shows ~e5.0001 or e5.0001 I can't remember right above bf2.exe

This concerns me because it's this thing that always seems to start running with CD's (or DVD's) just before they don't work for a little while. So far it's happened to my BF2 game before (about 4 months ago, and I couldn't play for three months) and Football Manager 2006, which I'm allowing three months to "recover".

So can anyone in the knowledge tell me what it is, if it really is a bad thing or if it's always been there. I only realised this time because my BF2 is lagging really badly, but it isn't lagging, my computer is running it really slowly, almost like I have a non-existant RAM, if you get me :p

So thanks to anyone who can help, I'm pretty desperate here

Its generally just the process while running program from CD's look in your Temp file in local settings.. nothing to be worried about.

I wouldn't be worried about that, I'd be worried about the weird lag.

I guess search for adware, spyware, etc, defrag your HD, delete some useless stuff, and check if someone stole your RAM sticks.

1. Doing it now.

2. Will do that next

3. I dunno what's useless or not, but I do know that deleting stuff doesn't actually remove it from my computer, it just unreserves the space it was in, ready to be overwritten.

4. Put it this way, no-one has, but even if someone had, I'm the type of fool that would open up his computer and look for a dustless gap

I got a google pack (Ad-Aware & Norton something) and Spybot S & D for good measure, where can I get the other stuff though?

Oh yeah, don't bother mentioning AVG, I once had it, needless to say, I'm never having it again!

Thanks everyone, you've given me hope!

you can also goto... start/run and type in msconfig. when the screen pops up click the services tab and near the bottom click hide all microsoft services then choose what programs you want running in the background. click apply do not klick ok. then go to startup tab and disable all. windows will be ok. It knows what should run. If you have a program you want running at startup, make sure it's still enabled. then click apply and then ok. reboot system and you'll notice the boot time will be faster and you won't have useless stuff running in background.

If you have adware, this process will not help much... it won't stop them from eventually running again. You'll need an anti spyware program. Try hitman pro 2. It works great for me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, basically I only stopped a couple of things from start-up cos I do like some stuff at start-up and that Services thing really helped

That ~e5.0001 thing is just a disc verification check, you'll see it with lots of games when they are loading.
